Re: Honest Critique
I understand what you are talking about. Personally I believe that understanding what someone personally dislikes and what is objectively (as in, technically) wrong in a work is an artist's problem and only comes from listening to lots of (honest) critique.

Re: Honest Critique
Lodable initiative. I like to think that feedback can't be negative, only untruthful. And untruthful critique, both positive and negative, can do a lot of harm to an aspiring artist/developer, way more than any honest dickhead comment would ever do. Feedback purpose is to let the artist understand w...

Re: VNs Based Off of Shows?
I doubt that's the case for a tv show...papillon wrote: If you're dealing with a small IP controlled by a single person that you can talk to directly, then there's a chance of saying yes.

Re: Visual Novels and semi-abstract art?
I think the term you are looking for is "stylization" more than "abstract art", as in, using the particular style you are describing. I'd say yes, go for it. But I would also say that style choice should should fit together with the other elements, mainly the story narrated and t...

Re: The difference between teen and eroge rated?
Abut sex scenes: if you could masturbate to it, chances are it is 18+ (unless you are into some weird fetish).
About violence: if you have to ask, it's probably not 18+. That's because if it was 18+ you would already know. Ratings are weirdly permissive for fictional violence.

I believe it goes under fair use so it should be fine, but I'm not a lawyer so don't take my word for it.

Re: Line Between "Informative" and "Preaching"
Bringing grist to one's mill may serve a purpose in making a point but ignoring other points of view is obfuscating proof a little. Morals are not like math where if one formula is right, the opposite must be wrong: there can be multiple agreeable opinions at the same time, IF the facts are express...

Re: What is your favorite writing tips ?
It's already cited in the OP, but it's worth repeating: "Inspiration comes with action". I wish I read it years ago, it would have saved me a lot of frustration and years waiting for the Muse to finally gift me the perfect story.

Re: Line Between "Informative" and "Preaching"
This is just my opinion, but I believe that a work that wants to give an opinion should always show both sides of the medal and never only one. It is both more interesting to read and allows the reader to form an opinion himself (of course considering no partiality and honesty in the data presented...

Re: What was your first story?
I actually don't remember, I wrote a lot of stories when I was in elementary school as homework assignment. Probably in 2nd or 3rd grade. They were based on some disturbing dreams I had. I remember my teacher talking to my parents because she thought they were morbid LOL. I had a lot of great fucked...

Re: How Do You Keep Track of Tasks During Game Development?
I have been using free mind for the longest time now. Then about two months ago I discovered org mode and it changed my life. It requires emacs so the entry level is a little bit too much for most people but I would still recommend it to anyone with some patience, it's worth it . It works as a log, ...

Re: Achievements
The name says it all... Achievements should be something that make you feel like you accomplished something. As the others said, the best example are the ones that help you explore new ways of gameplay or give you interesting challenges. Bad examples would be achievements you would get anyway from p...

Re: No idea where to start
If your characters are well rounded and you thought of a background for them, just think of a situation they want to get away from. Then sit back and see how things roll out. This is a tip I got from Stephen King and it works surprisingly well for a VN, since different choices give characters a diff...

Re: I've seen a lot of Otome VNs here? Are there no male gam
I'm a male and I'd gladly play a romantic VN without hentai IF it is well written. BxG, GxB, whatever, if it's well written I'm sure I'll like it. And I bet a lot of other males would. Still, sex is a huge seller, especially for the male crowd. Katawa Shoujo became so popular because dudes came for ...
