Re: Expanding the Community (was: Unique Opportunity)
It takes me several days to perfect 1000 words, and I end up going back to them over and over, because just like an art piece, the more you look at it, the less able you are to see mistakes. Taking for a moment aside the fact that writing is perhaps the most subjective art. I sort of agree and sort...

Re: Expanding the Community (was: Unique Opportunity)
I would hire writers, I would probably also hire graphic artists, to make an awesome commercial visual novel ; p If I had any sensible income and if i didn't have to think of how I'm going to manage next few months of my basic life expenses ; p From what I have seen, many times, and experienced myse...

Re: The Director's Artwork
Well, you were asking and i found a bit of time so here it goes. First and foremost, circles in perspective, this is one of the complete basics of proper drawing (because a LOT of things have circles or ellipses, it's a basic shape you must learn to draw properly). When you put a circle in perspecti...

Re: Questions on various of noob questions, really need help
For coming up with stories I'd say... read a lot and... some may disagree (XD) but go browse http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HomePage a lot... It may eat up your life but it's a bottomless well of knowledge about what makes god and bad stories, and it's a great well of writing ideas oh an...

Re: Downloadable Games are Important
There is a clear difference between online and download-able games. There are two types of user needs First type of user is someone who looks for a deep, long, time consuming experience of a high quality, this user demands control over what he pays for and has time to play with it. Second type of us...

Re: What do you think about the "other" VN engines?
I agree right now nothing can compare to renpy. If I had to use something different I would perhaps vote for trying to use flash (maybe much harder but it's doable). Renpy gives the best ratio of flexibility/customization and simplicity though.

Re: Questions about VNs
A) Two guys, several girls, and a school:(...) there should be more male characters (and even then, there would be male characters in the freshmen class). In case of ren-ai I'd love to see more novels which would be gender neutral, they would have similar amount of boys and girls and you could date...

Things which I'd like to see more of. the reverse of what i don't like to see ; p other than that, things which I'd like more of, for example: A main character who is a child but does not follow a prophecy, and is written in a realistic way, and not just a teenager, a real child, think of a 8 year o...

Re: Questions about VNs
I'm very picky and lots of things annoy me, for example: prophecies, when a story starts with a prophecy, it makes me rage the usual bad writing -> main character is angel, black angel, vampire, all of them at once ; p, sad/ beautiful/broken/emo/angsty/mary sue/author insertion stereotypical gender ...

Re: do we need a Ren'py maker with a user-friendly interface
Neowired, please accept (...) I apologize for doing so. It's ok, I understand when you're in a hurry things like that can happen. For the code above, what should the preview display on the line "this line"? that can very simple, for example instead of normal speech you chose a "menu&...

Re: do we need a Ren'py maker with a user-friendly interface
Honestly renpy is THE easiest tool I've ever seen. You need the help of someone who can code ONLY IF you want to do lot of customization, minigame, etc. If you want to make a pure simple VN (and that's what Renpy was built for after all) I doubt you can find something so easy and fast. A full graph...

Re: do we need a Ren'py maker with a user-friendly interface
instead of having to write nvl, or menu, or whatever, you'd get let's say, a dropdown menu with for example "dialog", then you set the character speaking, the editor generates the whole code by itself The problem with this is that the current code to have a character speak is: e "Onc...

Re: A question for RPG lovers: plot or combat?
MMORPGs have other players in them. Only rarely (on special 'RP' servers, in my experience) are they even vaguely pretending to be their characters, and even then, that pretense is meaningless because in every MMORPG I've been in there are no choices for players to make other than 'what quest shoul...

Re: Getting Backgrounds and Sprites to Match
maybe what you are lacking is the soft transparency blending of the sprite and bg (right now they are like you cut them out without any softening; the edge of the graphic needs to be soft on the alpha channel)
