I find it hillarious that the artist is getting 40% on a five-way split, twice as much as both programmers combined.
I don't really use Unity, but if you're desperate we can give it a try.

This makes sense. Because renpy loads all script files in the game folder, including copies.

Alternatively you can opt for a basic custom screen to serve as a menu. Should be easier to get the flexibility you want.

Hm, I guess you have a point. Still... as a bit of a modder I have nightmares of compatibility issues caused by random people making changes to core scripts. ... Well I'll be damned.
