Re: PR nightmare: When indie devs are attacked

Do not focus on the negative feedback unless it actually is constructive criticism. You can't give it the time of day if you want to produce the best game you possibly can. It's so hard to ignore it, but you have to. The time worrying about every little comment takes away hours, even days that could...

Re: Free Sprite/CG Artist Looking for a Project

Your art is high enough quality that I personally think you should charge for it. Don't undercut yourself, even if it's just for practice. : )

Re: Speeding Up the Production Process?

-it's tempting to try and do everything yourself, but you need to find people you trust to delegate work to. -avoid feature creep. Bigger isn't always better. Focus on quality over quantity -set realistic deadlines -only work on projects where everyone involved is passionate about them -have fun wit...

Mado: First of all, your GUI is really lovely and off to a great start. What you're doing great: -I can tell the genre of the game just by looking at the UI, which is important -You have a good eye for pattern and color scheme -You mix and match patterns and textures for visual variety What you can ...

Great work and affordable prices! If you're still available in a month, I'd love to hire you. Best of luck with commissions regardless. : )

Everyone: I'm always open to specific questions as well as general critiques. Things like "I need help with color schemes" or "I need help with perspective", ect, ect are all fine. trooper: Everyone's been so friendly and helpful with my game, it's the least I can do to return th...

Re: Composing Commissions [Closing May 10th]

I won't be needing a composer for another couple months, but when I do it will mostly be at or above the $500 mark. Do you have a limit on when you'll be available for larger jobs (like you're doing now with the limited slots) or will you consider them on a case by case basis.

Melody's Art Tutoring/Critiques [Open]

As some of you may remember, I used to do weekly livestream tutorials. Unfortunately I don't have the time for those, but I still want to give back to the community in some way. Thus leads me to this tutoring/critique thread. The process is simple: -Post or link to a Sprite/CG/BG/Illustration/UI/Log...

Re: Sprite emotions: open mouth and closed or just one state

Hey, you remember me. haha. Lip flap would be super cool, but probably a bit more involved than I would want for this initial game. The next one I make I'll want to do animated sprites (hair, gestures, lip flap, ect), but for this one I was just thinking of fading from an open mouth to a closed when...

Pickle: Sorry to hear it was that stressful but glad to know you made it through. I'll definitely look around for them. : ) Green Glasses: the 'documentary' from that picture was really interesting. I'll watch pretty much anything on ballet and when I heard about one with larger people, I was really...

Re: Sprite emotions: open mouth and closed or just one state

thanks for the visual Auro-Cyanide. You make some great games so that gives me confidence in the technique. : )

I create my sprites in a similar way (different parts on different layers almost like a dress up games) so I'm happy to hear I'm not screwing up royally. haha.

Re: Sprite emotions: open mouth and closed or just one state

Thanks for the fast response. I've already named them all in the clearest way to keep them organized and easy to remember. I'm also writing the script in ren'py's format so I should, in theory, be able to define and call them to the screen with my very basic knowledge of the program, thus cutting do...

Sprite emotions: open mouth and closed or just one state?

So, while making the sprites for my game I've created 8 emotions with an open mouth and a closed mouth version for each. I didn't really think about it while making it, it seemed like the obvious thing to do, but now that I'm playing through a few visual novels, i'm not seeing many use both. Am I do...
