Re: Marketing + Design: What makes great promotional imagery

@Kuiper - thanks for your insightful post and the links to all those trailers! It seems that one of the marks of truly excellent promotional material is the ability to "convert" people who wouldn't normally be interested in that genre or kind of content. By this rubric, the most successful...

Re: Marketing + Design: What makes great promotional imagery

I think there are different degrees to which you can "deceive" audiences. Subtly misleading them can be okay (and this can be necessary if you want to pull off a "twist"), but I think in most cases you don't want them to get something completely different than what they signed u...

Re: Marketing + Design: What makes great promotional imagery

For an interesting article on this subject, here is a post from one of Valve's artists describing the process for designing the Left 4 Dead box art . Their early cover designs were focused on more "literal" images, which depicted four human heroes facing off against a horde of zombies, bu...

Re: </reality> [Sci-Fi][Fantasy][Philosophy] Trailer

@Kokoro Hane - Thank you!! SO glad to hear that you are liking what you see so far, and loved the trailer! ^.^ And I'm also really pleased that you like Lilya so far. One thing we've been pondering lately is whether Lilya is like-able enough as a character - she certainly has some issues with social...

Re: Marketing + Design: What makes great promotional imagery

Thank you everyone, for your input so far!! It's really fascinating to hear opinions on this, what kinds of things work and don't work for you, and how you interpret the examples I posted. But I like anything with a lot of motion in it, and fresh perspectives, too. Stuff that makes the eyes wander a...

Marketing + Design: What makes great promotional imagery?

So, here's something I've been thinking about: what makes an awesome, effective promotional image? I'm not talking about art quality - for this discussion, let's assume the art quality is already very high. What I'm more interested in is the graphic design and the marketing goals. What are you sayin...

Re: Voice Snippets vs Voice Over

Personally, I find voice snippets can add a lot. If the voice is well-acted and sounds good, it gives me a great frame of reference for imagining the kind of voice all the rest of the dialogue is spoken in (if that makes sense). As already mentioned in this thread, you do want to make sure that your...

Re: Ways to keep people motivated through the long haul

Possible motivators: A sense that others are working hard on the project Competitive compensation/benefits/ownership These two, for sure! Feeling like you are the only one invested in the project is a sure way to lose motivation. And knowing that you have some tangible compensation at stake (whethe...

Re: Are they common rules about creating Backgrounds for VN?

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks to Tempus and LateWhiteRabbit as well, for their informative replies to this thread. I am new to making backgrounds for visual novels, and I just recently realized that I have an eye-level problem in some of my backgrounds. Your comments and the link you shared were ...

Re: Background art commissions

These are so beautiful! Awesome work. I especially like the one that looks kind of like a classroom, and the one with the bed and plants. Unfortunately, like Agashi, I am all set with art for my current project. However, I would also like to keep you in mind for future projects.

Good luck!
