Re: Several questions needing answers.lol
1. Yes, doing sprites first is fine. Personally, the only games I have the motivation to go on with are those with images. When I put the time into drawing all that stuff, I have no choice but to follow through with the story. 2. It doesn't matter, someone might find it interesting. (though make the...

Re: A game with a faceless, genderless protagonist?
-HotLimit Ah okay, your comment has helped me to see what's wrong with this idea. You're right, it would be really strange if all the characters are bisexual. An earth with no sexuality is a little too unbelievable. Looks like it'll be a no-go then. But somehow I like the idea of the protagonist be...

Re: A game with a faceless, genderless protagonist?
I've made games where you can be male or female. Basically any time I have a line of dialogue where the outcome would be different based on your gender, I would add two lines: if gender == 0: c "That's typical of a girl..." else: c "Typical guy..." Something to that effect... and...

That sounds fine, it doesn't matter if the choices are obvious because you have the affection-rating drop thing to balance it out.

Re: VN with exposition?
Both work. If you're introducing a completely new world (like a future where things are different), a little explanation or even a long one are useful. The most important thing is that the introduction, if you use one, be interesting . I'm not going to play your game if I have to sit through a 5-min...

Re: How Much Do Indie PC Devs Make Anyways?
Yeah it makes me so sad to see someone say that quality is what counts, when there are so many quality indie products (or commercial games, for that matter) that go unnoticed. Minecraft is a better example of a perfect storm than it is "quality will be rewarded".

Re: Dating Mechanic
How about the Chocobo thing from Final Fantasy VII: When you get into a battle, sometimes a girl appears mixed in with the enemies. She'll run away if the battle gets too heated, but if you throw her some grass to keep her occupied, you might get to date her when the battle is finished (assuming yo...

Re: Dating Mechanic
Personally, I don't really satisfied with just this. It's not about being realistic, but I just want something more "challenging" than just picking some choice to win the girls' heart. LOL, and I want something more challenging then showing off my boobs to win a guy's heart. Hahah, that r...

Re: Dating Mechanic
OK, so far most people have been talking about simulation mechanics, which is fine because I think that's more interesting than mini-games... but the question of those mini-game mechanics still stands. Personally I think there are a few routes you can go with this: Goal-oriented, like if you're on a...

Re: Opinion on too much customization in games
Characters who dump me at the last minute because I wasn't wearing a fluffy bunny t-shirt are still jerks Hahaha, that's great. Personally I think all games should have one of those characters, and you are confronted with the ultimate moral decision: Sell your soul and wear the bunny shirt to get t...

Re: Word Minimum
I'm cool with anything, but just remember that shorter = more difficult. You have less time to develop plot, characters, etc. Personally I'd be cool with 2000 words, especially if there was a promise of more to come (like another 2000 word game, or more chapters of the same length). Plus I'm all abo...

Re: What are your currents favourites?
Hourou Musuko and Hajime no Ippo are the only two I read on a regular basis (once a month). Hourou Musuko is about trans people (a girl born as a guy, and vice-versa), but it's extremely well-done. There are no cliches or anything, the characters are all believable and full of emotion. I think there...

Re: Ideas Dump
surgery VN. Where you're having surgery or performing surgery? o.O I believe there are already a few of both! The latter would be the Trauma Center games (which really are VNs when you get down to it), and the former... well.. that's my assumption, but it just seems like something that would fit in...

Re: Why do you make games?
I make them to see which concepts are just good ideas, and which concepts actually work in practice. Like I'm totally obsessed with games where you can collect and wear (or equip, for that matter) different clothes. So, for an RPG I tool around with the idea of different clothes giving your characte...
