Re: A nice chapter effect...?
I was scratching my head trying to do this the other day, so I've taken the info from this thread and added it to the tutorial. http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/doc/tutorials/Chapters My 'net connecton is a bit flakey at the moment, so if I've made any blunders (or you just want to improve it) please...

Re: Overall difficulty of VNs
I use ywriter. I really like it, and it's completely free. You insert different characters, locations, items, etc. and create different scenes within chapters, where you can assign POV, relevence, tension, 1st/2nd/Final Draft or outline for each scene, and a whole bunch of other things. It's not to...

Re: Why Why Why ?!!!
Having said that though, I bet the very first thing the kids are going to do is use it for writing H. After all, what are the most commonly looked-up words in the dictionary? Haha, that's so true. Allow kids to write any story they want and watch the high school boys just make one about sex anyway....

Re: Altering menu positions
The solutions posted are great if you want to set a new position for the menus throughout the game, so that they will all appear at top-left, or whatever. Unfortunately it seems there is no way to pre-declare several menu screen-locations - they have to be positioned "by hand"; i.e. you ha...

Re: [SOLVED] How do I stop the textbox dissolving in and out?
Note that if you've set Ren'py to show in-game choices in the dialogue box instead of in buttons, a previous "window show" command causes an extra dialogue box to be shown on top, so your choices will all appear dimmed.

Re: A nice chapter effect...?
Thanks for the help. I'm not getting an error message any more, but for some reason the chapter text isn't appearing. The screen simply fades to white, stays white for a few seconds, then fades to black and continues the game. It seems to be working fine except for the fact that there's no text. An...

Re: Copyright Infringement? (New problem. See my latest post)
Alright, now I have a new problem. Turns out that there's a character named Ai with almost the same appearance as the one in my current project, Mujinchitai. They're both named Ai, have long blue hair, and both have long ears. Only difference is eye color. Now is this copyright infringement of the ...

Re: Why Why Why ?!!!
As other posters have pointed out, it's difficult to comment without knowing what you're trying to teach the kids, but if you are trying to teach them elements of programming, then you might like to look at Inform: http://inform7.com/ which now has a section on the website specifically for using tha...

Re: Question about splitting script files for chapters
I'm generally bad at programming, so pardon the question. Basically, if I want to make, say, 10 different script files for 10 different chapters (for the sake of organization), how would I go about doing that? So far I only have the two default files, script.rpy and options.rpy. So long as the file...

Re: Concerning BGs
Yeah, you know the old saying: Copy from one thing, it's plagiarism. Copy from several, it's research. All art is to some extent a recycling and recombination of existing art - that's how inspiration works. However, the current legal framework called copyright doesn't recognise that - it endor...

Trying to change the value of xpos on the fly gets me nowhere: You can't change styles after init. Thanks for confirming the bad news - I suspected as much when everything else worked just dandy. Thanks also for the other code you posted (snipped for brevity), but it looks like an awful lot of codi...

Re: First person pitfalls
You're absolutely right. People are just used the the Japanese VNs that try to self-insert you. A good story doesn't NEED self-insertion, but a simulation might. Therefore, dating sims = usually first-person. Isn't it also because it makes the art simpler? I think it might be really effective to te...

I'm pretty feeble at drawing, but one thing that I'm paying careful attention to now is the size of characters' hands: I often draw them too small. Believe it or not, your hand is the same size as your face! (I really didn't believe it when I was first told. If you put the heel of your hand on your ...

Changing menu position in-game?
Hi everyone I found this topic on how to position a menu on the screen: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5042&p=70035&hilit=side+menu#p70035 and it works just dandy (thanks JQuartz!) However what I really want to do is to have the menu options appear in different plac...
