Re: Rising Angels: The Red Rose

Finished playing, thought I'd post my comments/thoughts. When this opened in wide-screen, I thought wow (haven't been playing VNs very long and this is the first I've played in that format). Visually stunning. The backgrounds are beautiful and the characters just gorgeous to look at (god I want to b...

Re: Lesleigh63's art thread

Hi Merdeamour - thanks for the comment. Glad you like them.

Hi MaiMai - thanks for the comment. Even though I'm working from photographs as the reference, I'm now making sure I trace my lines back to the vanishing points which should help with the perspectives.

Lesleigh63's art thread

Working on backgrounds. I want a style that is almost realistic but doesn't clash with the anime/manga style of sprites. Feel I'm getting better at this with each new background I make. These are painted in corel photopaint.

Re: Does this pass as Hand-Drawn Background?

For me personally, I'd be painting some cracks etc on the yellow kerbing and some dents etc on the white guard rail to add details and push this into realism, but that may be too much extra work considering what you're trying to do.

Re: Art Dumpage! Show your art ^^

Thanks for the feedback Applegate. Lines were coming from a photo ref I was using except I added the TV+cabinet, little table and lounge into the pic. Big table even looked weird in the photo (but at the same time I kinda liked it). Guess the lens they used may have distorted things or I've missed a...

Re: Post processing 3D rendered BG's... any ideas?

I tried adding 'noise' followed by a 'Gaussian blur'.
Hope this shows up and doesn't just look the same.

Re: Art Dumpage! Show your art ^^

I'm not ready to start a wip for my VN yet. I'm writing the story into renpy and doing backgrounds at the moment. I've posted one of the backgrounds I've made and then a screenshot when I've put it in the game. I've included the sprite to see if the two go together okay, I thought they did. The spri...

Re: Just wanted to say thanks

It's a nice forum to belong to. Art and writing tend to be solitary pursuits, and it suits my personality. I'd never get my game finished if I was out socialising all the time. But it is nice to come in here and see what other like-minded folks are up to and to have that contact.

Such lovely art and I like the personalities of the characters and that they've been exiled. Seems really interesting.

Re: Idol Crush v1.1

Well congratulations on actually completing a visual novel, they are a work and a half. I enjoyed playing this. I also like finding games that I can get through to one of the endings in one sitting. Next time, I think you just have to develop the story a little more by allowing the characters to mor...

I've only played one ending so far, but it was a very enjoyable to play. Cute story, cute artwork, cute overall feel. Looking forward to playing again, and again, and again.

Re: Patience trying something 100% new... how do you get it?

I don't think you're going to become good at art if you don't actually like doing art. I always loved doing art, but I didn't become happy with how my art turned out until I was in my 20s and I haven't stopped learning or putting time into it after that. If you do like doing art, keep plugging away ...

Re: Where you get... motivation?

This is going to sound a little weird, but picture your game finished. You've posted it and people are playing it and leaving you comments on how great it was. This kind of thinking helps to get you motivated and keep going.

Re: How Do You Plan For Your Games?

I've only just started on my visual novel, so my method may not work. At the moment I'm making the backgrounds and writing the script into Renpy up to where the backgrounds come in. I've got one sprite to test if the background and sprites work together. I intend to finish the backgrounds and script...
