Re: How to prevent rollback?

Hmm ... true, PyTom. However, I can see the other side. I find I get into a habit of choosing each option and then rolling back all the time. The significant weight of choosing the right answer is absent, and it becomes more of a chore sometimes for those games with lots of options. I can understand...

Re: Accepting donations for fan-based games?

I'm on your side, Melkoshi. I consider fangames to be like fanart. It's just a different way of expressing your fandom. Selling that material would be a really bad thing -- but you're not. I really wouldn't feel guilty playing such a game, honestly. I would be upset if someone used the RO world and ...

Re: Unique Image Map

All of those things are totally possible. You just have to know how to code it. :) However, it's probably best to not use imagemaps if you want to get complicated. I stopped using imagemaps a long time ago once I realized how restricting they are. They only do square hotspots, if you wanted to chang...

Blakjak! I'm so honored by your fanart. You make her look so beautiful!

I'm releasing a demo soon ... not sure how soon, but I'm fool-proofing my code now.

Also, I had a city in my world called "Jack City", but I've changed it to "Jak City" in homage to you. ;)

Re: Suggested development

You'd be surprised how many ways you can customize Ren'Py. It's completely open for customization in almost every aspect, you just have to know how. This page and this page teach you how to create your own theme. Look at PyTom's response in this thread to learn how to change a style mid-game. To cre...

Re: side images yes or no?

If you think about it, the eye will have to move up and down either way: down for the text, up for the graphic. I found, personally, that side-images were easier on the brain as they gave me the option of looking up, but resulted in a more focused, less satisfying experience. I also found that if th...

Re: side images yes or no?

Yes, children will better understand who's talking, but I think that's because it will help everyone, regardless of age. I find that if there's side images, I rarely look up at the actual sprites. It's for the ease of reading without having to constantly move your eyes up and down to check to see if...

Re: Choosing Colors for Coloring Sprites

Do you guys typically use different Sprites based on whether it's night or day in the background or do you simply use the same sprites all around and shade them cleverly enough so that no one notices a difference? Never thought about it, but I guess I do use the same sprites for all versions of lig...

Re: Requesting help for making a RPG visual novel xD.

Hello! I'm making an RPG, too. Making one from scratch is pretty up there on the difficulty scale. The little things like inventory and stores can be harder than a battle system, I found. And don't forget making a good AI for your enemies, too. A really helpful framework you should look at for inspi...

Re: Choosing Colors for Coloring Sprites

How do you guys go about choosing what colors to use and when? Yay! A coloring topic! I just delved into the world of coloring with the sprites for my upcoming game ... it's so fun I want to do it all over. :3 I have a pretty weird way of choosing colors for my sprites -- weird in that it's a bit u...

Re: Has Any Game Ever Made You Cry?

Games don't make me cry. Movies don't make me cry, though I may sympathize greatly with the characters (this can also be true of games, but I find it less common). True, I think the reason why people cry is because they empathize more than sympathize ... if we've experienced death, trauma, or profo...

Re: Has Any Game Ever Made You Cry?

Oddly enough, I cried playing Elite Beat Agents on the DS. I was having fun with all those fluffy little crises until I get this SUPER depressing case where I have to bring a little girl's father back to life for Christmas like he promised. I could barely play the level with all the tears in my eyes...
