Re: Walking around a VN
You know... what about the Ace Attorney games? You only really have access to a few screens per case, but you're constantly examining objects in the background (making use of the aforementioned image map) and speaking to NPCs who generally guide you to your next destination. These investigative segm...

Re: My first game, Another Day
...oh my god. This is legendary shit right here. I'll try to articulate my opinions on this... later. But for now... Holy shit. You have left me without words. *Edit: On a serious note, I'm TOTALLY going to be cribbing some ideas from this. Specifically the use of mixed media (as it seems you've LIT...

Re: Ideas Dump
"Mankind ends at the Feast of Dogs!" So what is the Feast of Dogs? It is the point of time where man ceases to be. The world will be left devastated by an act of folly. A time traveling society of deceased spirits called Encyclometro make it their mission to avert the Feast of Dogs by cha...

Re: Ideas Dump
I posted this on another board but let's see how these are received on this end of the internet. Synopses are roughly organized in order of "most likely to see in some form out of the gate first" and then personal importance. Spambots@Love Genre: Comedy, Romance, Science Fiction Themes: Ar...

Re: Criticism and Pushing the Envelope
I do have one vaguely related request of this community. Please stop making visual novels set in Japan (loosely based on anime and America), featuring characters with nonsensical Japanese names (loosely based on Americans). Actual Japanese people would gag looking at this stuff. Might be translated...

Re: Ren'Py @ Otakon 2008
Hello. I attended the panel on Friday (I was the guy with a shaved head rocking the blue/yellow/white striped polo shirt and shaded eyeglasses in the second row on the right; you might've seen me) and enjoyed it. The coding seemed to catch a few people in the lab off guard but Ren'Py isn't that diff...

Re: The most Important thing in the game.....
Alright, let's see if I can write anything of substance. I think you're doomed if you begin looking at a visual novel or any other work of art as just a sum of its parts. As an author, you shouldn't try to compensate for a weak element in your game (for example, the artwork) by crafting a better sto...

I see. The reason that the game can't be closed through the window is because the Game Maker textbox script I use freezes the game. papillon, if you've got a textbox script that gets around that, I'd be interested in looking at it. I guess I should probably look at Ren'Py if I want to make anything ...

Journal Entry 05/23/06
https://webspace.utexas.edu/jdr783/journalentry052306.exe It's not a traditional ren'ai game, nor is it very long either. This is just me testing out GameMaker's ability to make visual novels, and it's versatile enough to do just that. Because I didn't want to figure out a story to write down in onl...
