Making A Living off of VNs: What should I do?

I looked around and the general consensus here is that it's going to be really really really difficult making a living off of making Visual Novels. But it's not impossible - look at people Hanako Games, Winter Wolves, and Sakevisual. I realize that they're really a small handful, but if they can do ...

Re: Unemployed... Should you get a job or Sell Visual Novel?

But what if you can't get a job? What if that option is not feasible? I have Major Depression and PTSD so it's really difficult for me to find a job job and keep it. I really tried to get a real job in the past, but I was let go due to the fact that I looked "panicked" all the time. In add...

Re: Would my KN be considered 18+?

Thanks for the advice guys! I've did some thinking and I've decided to have suggestion than full blown sex-scenes. I think it suits what I'm trying to do better.

Re: Would my KN be considered 18+?

Thanks guys for the responses! They've been very helpful. I think I might have to go the route of making a two versions of this. I'm really not fond of the idea though - I feel like without the sex scenes the player would be missing some important content. So how do I make a toned down version witho...

Would my KN be considered 18+?

I had this conversation with some people before, but I'd like to get other opinions on it. I'm currently developing a KN that does have sexual content in it, but it's not intended as an "adult game." My KN is about a young woman coming to terms with the sexual abuse she faced as a child, a...

Re: [BxG] Marry, F*ck, Kill [Drama, Dark, Pyschological Horr

I don't think think that with this type of story only a "masterful" writer can pull it off - I think anyone can write any type of story as long as they know what they're doing or, at the very least, have an idea of what they're doing. The OP may be a tad bit under-skilled for this type of ...

Re: [BxG] Marry, F*ck, Kill [Drama,Dark,Suspense,Controversi

This could be an interesting and compelling story if done right, but from what I've read so far there's very little indication that this story is something other than a power-fantasy. There are tons of issues with this concept I don't even know where to start, but I think a lot of people hit the nai...

Re: What Are Some Common Visual Novel Clichés?

I think it's counterproductive to avoid cliches. Cliches are everywhere, and if you try to completely avoid them you'll find yourself in a dead end. In fact, by trying to avoid cliches you might run into the things you've been trying to avoid. Instead of avoiding cliches completely, try twisting the...

Re: how do i background

You're going to have to get the patience to draw backgrounds, there's no way around it. You'll have to learn perspective, composition, and lighting. There are tools to help make perspective grids easier, but you'll need to know perspective in order to use ito properly. So go find some tutorials and ...

Re: Cheap Labor: When People Undersell Themselves

You are running the assumption that art as a market is the same as Human Resources, where labor laws apply. It's not. There is no minimum wage, and equal opportunity does not necessarily mean equal results. That's just the way it is. You are also running the assumption that cheap artists will take ...

Re: Cheap Labor: When People Undersell Themselves

I am guessing the simplest answer would be to create an industry standard for prices and quality, but how would someone go around doing that in the first place?
Let me refer you to The Graphic Artists Guild Handbook.

Re: Cheap Labor: When People Undersell Themselves

I said this time and time again and I'll say it again: I don't care if you want to do your work for free or not. It just pisses me off when I see very good artists undersell themselves because I feel it cheapens the craft as a whole. People have a hard time respecting artists already - I've seen exa...

Re: Cheap Labor: When People Undersell Themselves

It takes varying degrees for different people. Some people can whip up a sprite in an hour and have it look totally professional. I know people like this. Should art be payed by the hour when there are so many variables? You have to also understand, it probably took YEARS for that person to whip up...

Re: Cheap Labor: When People Undersell Themselves

ETA: Rozume, I decided to see if I could find examples of your work to see what it looked like, since you mentioned you don't work in an anime style. And I find a thread in the recruitment forum where you are offering to do sprites for free. http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?f=38&t...
