Re: CG in visual novels - Too many or too few?

Whether a certain amount of CG's is too many or too few depends on one, simple factor: Will it break your budget? Sorry, I know it's not a particularly deep point of view, but it does need to be said. CG's are not always the most expensive asset, but depending on the prices of the individual a...

Re: How do I approach romance?

I think this is a great idea! There is a VN that's done something similar, but with a marriage. It's called Our Personal Space . I'd also recommend reading up some articles on depicting romance, such as this, for example, if you're trying to think of how to write the couple's scenes together: http:/...

Re: how to spend $20k on your VN?

It really depends on: a) which assets are most expensive, b) of these expensive assets, which ones are absolutely worth it, and c) which ones do I absolutely need right now, not just for progress' sake, but also for marketing purposes, to have something to show my potential audience? I would start o...

Re: "I would totally play your game if I had the time and mo

I pretty much agree with tfm on this--there is no point to be mined from this argument, no hidden golden nugget one can latch on to and go "A-HA! THIS PROVES MY HYPOTHESIS ALL ALONG!". Really, it ultimately boils down to individual reasons, some of which are very personal, many of which ha...

So LateWhiteRabbit, Caveat Lector and especially "shame on you" Rinima: Do you actually prefer a "polite" lie to an honest opinion? No--in fact, a good beta reader/friend of mine recently gave me a good, strong, harsh critique on a recent project, and it has been immensely helpf...

Re: "I would totally play your game if I had the time and mo

One thing I'd like to add: Some of us saying this ("I'd play your game if I had the time and money") are VN devs ourselves investing a LOT of money and time into our own projects. We'd love to be able to buy every single new VN that came out every month if we could, but this is not always ...

Re: which are the most popular (complete) VNs on LSF?

Hmm...that may be a bit tricky to figure out off-hand. One strategy I can suggest is calculating popularity by number of replies/pages, but even that's not a total guarantee, because a) popularity can be fickle, and b) it's possible for a VN to receive not much buzz or huzzah on lsf but still be wid...

Re: Do people even like Yuri/Yaoi when Otome and BxG are aro

OP, if you want to make a BxB/GxG game, go for it. Rest assured, there are many of us who would love to see more games like this, but our opinions tend to not be heard as loudly in certain circles. If you do decide to go for GxG, you could try using the Yuri Jam as a starting point (though it may be...

Re: List of Visual Novel Genres/Types/Terms?

Utsuge/Nakige (depressing/will make you cry? Are these 2 different things?) Yes. They're similar, but the difference between the two is that an utsuge is more or less somber/depressing from beginning to end; a nakige (not to be confused with nukige) has sad events, but still a bright/hopeful atmosp...

Re: Short, horror game suggestions?

My standard short horror game suggestion is The Loop , which takes roughly under an hour in one sitting. My other top suggestions are a few JRPG horror games-- The Witch's House , Ib , and Mad Father (the last of which is also available on Steam for $5) are generally considered to be some of the top...

Re: On tracing?

I agree with Selidor. I will say that, I'm slightly more lenient if the tracer in question is very young and has never been properly exposed to topics and debates surrounding tracing before, so they may legitimately not see anything wrong with what they're doing. However, the thing is, they can't LE...

Re: Not all art makes good sprites

No, it's all right, I think this is a discussion worth having. The one thing I'd add to the topic, is that it's more of a matter of styles clashing or going together, much like what RossFellow was saying with his provided examples. One example you brought up, as a Western OELVN example, was Cinders....
