I think it'd be better to show a slice of the whole game in the demo, rather than locking to one route.

If the story is in first-person, I don't like having the mc appear at all, even as just an icon.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. People buy e-books that have no visuals or sound at all. You may be changing your target audience, though.
