Re: What makes a Kickstarter successful?

I've spent $2000 so far. I have $170 left I could possibly spend on the Kickstarter video. Sorry, that's my bad for not reading your in progress thread first. You seem to know what you're doing. Carry on. Although, I understand money can't buy everything... I need to know what it is that mak...

Re: What makes a Kickstarter successful?

I do love a catchy promo. If you can put together a good one then go for it. As has been mentioned before, however, the majority people making their first game never finish so I'd say it's much more important to make a demo to show that you are serious about the commitment (and have some idea what y...

I love your fog effect! How did you do that?

Re: Questions about learning how to Write for a VN

The main difference between a VN and more traditional storytelling is that a VN has decision points. When you read/watch/think about a story, look at it from the perspective of "if the main character had made a different choice here what would have happened?" You can write simple plot tree...

Re: My Ninja Life [B/GxG, action adventure, comedy]

I wouldn't call it a mystery. There are secrets (and reveals) but solving them isn't the main drive of the story. It's a comedy adventure, heavily driven by the characters. Now that I've done a bit more writing I can say that the ninja war isn't so much an all out battle as it is an ongoing struggle...

Re: The Crystal Castle [GxB, Fantasy, Adventure]

Thank you so much for your feedback! Exposition was my biggest concern for this game. I don’t like exposition as a general rule and try to edit it out wherever possible. If this is done right then the story is uncluttered and feels natural. If this is done badly then people have a hard time followin...

Re: Achievements

A lot of VNs use unlockable CGs in much the same way. If you do the actions that let you see the CG then it shows up in a picture gallery. Usually there will be blank spots showing you how many more you haven't gotten yet. Some games also do this with the endings you have managed to get in all your ...

Re: Mogar's Quest: Heart of the Magical Girls |Mac/Windows/L

This game was adorable. I loved how the characters interacted with and knew about each other. The story is well laid out, pacing is good, and the end made me happy.

My only complaint (if it can be called that) is that there wasn't any music.

Re: The Crystal Castle [GxB, Fantasy, Adventure]

Thank you! The music comes from various open source creators and I was very pleased with all of the pieces I found. It's sad but true about the art. Art is only a secondary skill of mine and Malthe in particular is my very first sprite. I've gotten a bit better which should be reflected in my next g...

Re: My Ninja Life [B/GxG, action adventure, comedy]

I wrote a plot synopsis without mentioning the main conflict in the story. Not good advertising. Yes, Robin gets caught up in a ninja war. Shortly after arriving at the dojo a rival ninja attempts to (and possibly succeeds at) stealing the dojo's sacred treasure: a magical blade. The fight ov...

My Ninja Life [B/GxG, action adventure, comedy]

Ok! I finished my first game; it's time to get cracking on the 2nd one. The title says it all! Ninjas! Very historically inaccurate ninjas! Plot While competing at a mixed martial arts tournament you became friends with a Japanese girl who invited you back to hangout/train at her family's dojo after...

How can I customize a changeable name? [Solved]

If I just assign a character a name I can change the color that the name appears in, add prefixes and suffixes, etc. just by defining the character that way: define unknown = Character('???', color="#c8ffc8", what_prefix="\"", what_suffix="\"") With this code ...

Re: Rising Angels: Reborn

I like this game but it has crashed for me twice. After deciding to stay and glean more information from the wreaked ship in the option menu to talk to someone if I try to talk to Kika the game crashes. I talked to Commander Rasoona instead and the game still worked for a while. But after the crysta...

Re: Relationship problems in a romance visual novel

You're not alone. GxB is just really popular right now. Good questions by the way. Let's see... Q1: I could see this being well done. I have played games where I started romancing one character and then didn't like the way their romance went and switched to someone else. I'll admit it is a little de...
