Re: Getting past the grind... Or tedious work
If you feel like the middle is tedious, why is it there? That sounds like a good sign that something you're writing is unnecessary. Why do you say there isn't much you can cut? If something needs to happen to move the plot along, but it isn't interesting in and of itself, then you don't need to writ...

Re: Is it possible...
You could definitely have a game where the only choice is selecting where to go on a map. You could use that once, and each location has a unique ending that solely depends on picking that place, or you could have the player select from the same map a certain number of times and have endings depend ...

Re: Break Chance Memento [BxB] [Sci-Fi Murder Mystery]
I'm going to assume that those sprites are shown with their relative heights the way they will be in the game? For the girl on the left, her torso looks too long for how short she is. Making her a little taller might be an easy way to solve it, but if you want her to stay that short, you should prob...

Re: Jobs
College is a job in itself, though, especially when you're in a science-related field... Yay, Chemistry... (not) Chemistry? High five! "Yay chemistry" is the truth. :D In addition to being a student, I get paid to make silly waffles that are sometimes shaped like Cthulhu or a kraken, and ...

Re: "True" endings
True endings are mostly appropriate for games where you can succeed or fail--a true ending when you manage to resolve the conflict completely, and other endings when you fail to resolve it or only partially do so. Or a true ending would be appropriate if there's some kind of "big picture" ...

Re: game without backgrounds
If the setting isn't very important or there isn't much you actually need the backgrounds to show, then I wouldn't mind playing a game without backgrounds--especially if you do something simple but still nice to look at, like color washes. But it may be difficult to set the scene without distinct ba...

Veniae, Camille -- Thanks for the feedback on the GUI! I think this is what I'll stick with, though I'm still trying to get something together for the text box. ludeshka -- Good to hear that you think the sketchy style works! I'm glad you liked that story, too. I'm currently working on getting more...

Re: Secret Santa 2011
I was not ludeshka's Secret Santa! Ludeshka's Secret Santa was KateWanders, but since we still have't heard from her, I have become ludeshka's Substitute Secret Santa.
So this was a tad rushed, but I hope you like it still. ^^; Happy holidays!

Re: Question about a Main Character's motives?
Let your character try. Let him fail. And then ask yourself, is this really the end of the story? Stories don't all need to end with the hero achieving his goal. The realization that he can never get what he wants is just as valid (whether that means he realizes it and stops trying, or just the audi...

I'm sorry for how late this is. >.<
I was KateWanders's secret santa! It's quite lengthy (over 4000 words) so I've put it on my website to avoid devouring the entire page. Click below to read it!

Re: WiP Questionnaire
On the issue of how much plot information to require, it might be sufficient to ask something like this: What are the main conflicts of the story? Do you know how they'll be resolved (yes/no)? or, Describe some plot events. Do you know how the story ends (yes/no)? "Describe some events" ma...

Re: Creator's Corner - Forum Mandates
People should be coming to WIPs to check out your work. To see its progress, and to follow its development. It shouldn't be for them to watch you struggle through technical problems. The benefit of putting all the "how should I do this" threads in a separate section like Skill Improvement...

Re: Creator's Corner - Forum Mandates
So specific "how should I do this" should go in the Skill Improvement forum, and then WIP threads should be for showcasing what's been done and asking for general remarks?

Re: LSF Forum Mandates - Introduction
At the same time, I think we can kind of focus the forums attention a bit more. The way I see it, a person with a finite amount of time to spend on the forum (and who doesn't) might make n posts a day. If they all go into timewaster threads, like forum games, they're not helping us meet our mission...

Re: Creator's Corner - Forum Mandates
Wouldn't most of these be on-topic in the new skill improvement forum? (Or the subforums people have suggested, since there's a lot of support for them.) The long or short hair one might be too subjective to make a good thread, though. My thinking was that it makes more sense to have a single "...
