Re: Essential features for EVEN: a new visual novel engine
Now hold up, Merak. This thread is a "how do I improve the engine I'm currently working on" and from what I can tell you've basically said "throw out everything you've done so far and program it all in my favorite language". I'm not a programmer, so a lot of this stuff is going o...

Re: Realistic style art in Visual Novels?
This has actually been discussed a few times, every time the consensus is, yes, non-anime styles are good and in fact in many cases it's preferred. Most people care more about quality than they do style.

Re: Essential features for EVEN: a new visual novel engine
I think that no matter how you phrase it it's going to look like programming. Seeing code is when my brain shuts off and refuses to try. The more it looks like I'm editing the game play and not working behind the scenes the better. So instead of scripting in a character image, I'd prefer to drag tha...

Re: VN Writing Circles. Interested?
Question 1: How many people would you prefer to be in a group with? Size isn't really important, it's the quality of feedback. As long as there are enough voices to get more than one opinion on each person's project and aren't so many people involved that people get lost in the shuffle then it's go...

Re: What's Your Motivation?
I've been trying to be a one woman army with my in the works VN's but I think my opinion can still be useful. I was drawn to VN's specifically because of the relatively small workload of art needed to make a game compared to other game genres I enjoy. You could make a whole game, a good one even, wi...

Re: NaNoRenO is coming again! Who's excited?
Is it really time for NaNoRenO? Wow! I'm really torn on this, I want to join but I should focus on work. I'm going to have to think hard about this one. If I could get a good writer to join me it could be worth it, writing was the only thing that I couldn't finish in time last year.

You don't have to go someplace scary. You could do it here, it's been done before.

Re: Improving in a short amount of time?
Well, the best thing I've found is to find a place with great artists who are willing to do some really serious critique and then have them rip to shreds everything you make for a while and implement the things they suggest within a very short time frame. It's hard on the ego, you'll be redrawing th...

Re: Would you play a game without CGs?
Yeah, I totally would. CG's aren't a big bonus for me, if the narrative could support the scene without the image I'd rather have more dynamic sprites or more backgrounds.

Re: Sprites: "In Motion" vs. "At Rest"
I think that in a VN the typical poses are a bit like using the word "said" when writing a novel. Some beginning writers pull out a thesaurus and try to never use the word said, and instead of making their prose more meaningful and poetic they've made it garrish and jarring. Seasoned autho...

Re: Sprites: "In Motion" vs. "At Rest"
These high motion poses look a bit funny if used a lot but interspersed with the more mundane poses would look pretty cool I think. When you think of personality in poses don't think "arm positions" and such, think more minor things like how much tension is in the shoulders or if they have...

Re: Developing a Soundtrack for Your Game?
Unless you've worked it out beforehand you can pretty much assume that the musician has retained copyright and you've bought a license to use it in your game, and you don't have the right to resell. Resell rights are usually more expensive.

Re: To all Otome Fans: Would you date this Character?
I prefer the first one because of the art style and look of the character, but I really like both.
