I've heard of such a problem occuring on machines with non-English settings. Are you running WinXP? Do you have non-unicode programs set to Japanese or some other language by chance? If so, try changing that and see if it works. (it's a regional setting in the control panel IIRC) Other than that, I ...

Some hypotheticals.

Let's suppose we have some photos of real people in jpg or png or whatever. Then let's suppose we want to make character graphics from these photos for use in a game. Has this been done before? Can it be done? How would one go about doing it?
