Re: How to hide the error message from user when the game crashes?

And what would they tell you that would be helpful if they emailed you for support, unless they had an actual description of what went wrong? There are many variables that could lead to a crash, and them telling you - "It crashed when I went to talk to this NPC" might not be helpful if the...

Re: Pls Help with Drawing Tablet

I have experience with both Wacom and Huion tablets. I can vouch for both. Honestly, I'm using a Huion Kamvas Pro 22 display tablet to draw on now, and it is amazing. Easily as good as the Cintiqs from Wacom I've used in the past, and much, much cheaper. Huion is giving Wacom a much needed run for t...

Re: Attempted making scrollable dialogue box, text area now unclickable

Not sure how to circumvent this, but the problem may be that scrollable viewports also allow you to click and drag within the viewport to move the view. If you turn that off (if possible), perhaps then you can make only the bar scroll the viewport and allow advancing from clicking on the text. Than...

Re: The size of my game can impact performance on mobile?

The size of the game can absolutely cause a performance hit on phones. Think of Android phones like low-end PCs. You are probably overloading the active memory storage (RAM) of the phones. You can start by making sure all your image files are as small as possible. Webp files are the smallest file fo...

Re: How many in-game days should it take for characters to fall in love?

I just want to start this off by saying I'm biased because I hate insta-romances. If you still want my opinion here it is. Obviously, it's up to you. It's your story and you can do whatever you want, but if you want the romance to feel realistic, 2 days or a week is far from enough time to build up...

Re: How many in-game days should it take for characters to fall in love?

Depends on the characters and the story you want to tell. The entirety of Romeo and Juliet takes place in less than 4 days, from first meeting to secret marriage to death by suicide. In real life, I've had one relationship where we were smitten with each from literally the first moment we made eye c...

Re: Art Dimensions Question

You generally want character art to be larger than your screen resolution for the same reason as the backgrounds - you can zoom in on them with no pixelation. The game I am working on is meant to be 1080p, but I am making my assets in 4K (3860x2140). This is both to future proof my assets in case I ...

Re: Spam / Forum Password

I'm glad you took this step, because the spam was really getting out of control.

I feel it's necessary, unfortunately. It was getting discouraging to check the forums and see so many new topics that weren't actually new topics.

Re: Is Lemmesoft Dying

Also, what are people here for? I’ve been a registered member for a while, and I lurked for a while before that. I don’t post as often. As I used to, but I still check the forums every day. So what am I here for? I’m not here for Introduction posts or for seeming activity. I’m not here for chatting...

Re: How crowded is the visual novel market now?

It is a double-edged sword if you are a developer. Larger potential audience, but you'll have to work a lot harder to stand out above the crowd. Once upon a time, just being a visual novel in English guaranteed you a pool of players, because only a handful of visual novels came out a year for the En...

Re: How do I draw classrooms on a two point perspective?

It is hard to give a simple answer on subjects like this. For one, that image is using 3-point perspective (because it is actually 3D). First, I would really study perspective, independent of drawing your backgrounds. Practice and learn by drawing simple objects in perspective, then move up to more ...

Re: Good programs for organizing a strongly non-linear narrative?

Not trying to be flippant, but a corkboard, index cards, and pins are very effective. It is how Pixar and other studios develop stories, and how I was taught to diagram game flow in my game design courses in college. Because you have to write everything by hand and fit it on an index card, it forces...

Re: Good story but decent art

I think visuals are important for first impressions before you download, that is they make people want to download your game. It may be more difficult to prove you have great writing in a game just based on the landing page. Illustrations can be simple, they don't need to be complex, but the more i...

Re: Doing a "Oregon Trail" type of game in Ren'Py?

I think you could easily do a game like this with Ren'Py. It wouldn't take too many advanced tricks or stretch the engine to do everything you wanted to do to match the gameplay of the original and do it with your own concepts and story elements. I love the idea. I played a lot of Oregon Trail on th...
