Re: The Thorn Prince[regency][BxG]
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, @nekobara and @zelan, forgot about this thread for a while. @nekobara: Unfortunately there shall be no option to romance or romance with Mr. Fluffles, for he is still very much underaged. I don't want the cops to come knocking on my door, after all. Thank you for your ...

Re: Layered Images VS. Full Image
Depends. A lot of sprites don't need that, but if those sprites have a lot of expressions then it will be a definate must. If you have a large cast but each member only has one outfit and pose and 4-8 expressions, using the full image is manageable or even recommendable. If you have characters that ...

Re: Backgrounds made with sketchup - commercial use?
Then it will be a race: Will you make enough money or be sued first? ... Probably neither, considering the profit margins of most indie VNs and the company never noticing you. It's also hard for them to tell whether you got Pro, considering all features of the free (?) version ought to be on Pro and...

Re: The Thorn Prince[regency][BxG]
Finally, the first draft of Princess Charlotte's route is finished. Took me 8 months where the common route and Salia combined took me 6. Hope Veronica won't be so hard to get through... Anyway, for whatever reason I decided that William needed a hobby. And what's more manly and majestic than falcon...

Re: Backgrounds made with sketchup - commercial use?
Technically, yes. Perhaps there are some ways that you could work around it without the legal problem, relying on that your game probably won't be big enough for the company to even notice you. Though that's a slippery slope, of course. I'd say; if it's an asset freely available in Sketchup like a g...

Re: How to keep artists committed?
This isn't an uncommon problem from what I've heard around here, unfortunately. Plenty of people who choose to become an artist, especially an internet-paid artist, come with a personality that sees dropping projects and duties half-finished as more normal than the rest of us. Sorry for the artists ...

I see you've written:
"Usami" "Um…! Nothing, I just… saw a spider, yeah, a spider! It scared me that’s all!"
while according to your define names it should be:
U "Um…! Nothing, I just… saw a spider, yeah, a spider! It scared me that’s all!"

Re: World Map
You might want to try the Cartographers Guild , they specialise in this kind of stuff. You're much more likely to find someone with ample experience in doing this kind of thing and doing it with the skill and knowledge there. Sorry to the interested artists around here, but maps are vastly different...

Re: Using Flashbacks Effectively
All of the above, seconded. If something has a purpose, keep it in. Flashbacks can be annoying in stories, but if they serve an actual non-cliche purpose (unlike most in anime and VN) they're okay to add. One thing that wasn't mentioned here is the two story rhythm. If the flashbacks are shorter tha...

Re: How many words should I aim for?
You should aim for all the words. Don't feel like you need to hold back if you want to write more, there's no maximum amount of words to adhere to. You should aim for few words. Don't feel like you have to make an essay with a minimum word count or that you have to fill scenes to a certain length. Y...

Re: Discussion about visual novel unlockables
More content like what the OP suggested is indeed nice, but make sure not to make it too much or for it to be there for the sake of more content. Good the way it is: New Route - You can't play through this route until you complete another one prior. Assuming there's a plot reason for it, this is alw...

Re: Players name themselves vs. OC character
Personally, I find the experience of naming a character to be much less engaging as a player than I and others think it is as a developer. Half the VN games have it these days, so it's definately nothing special anymore. It might even blow up in your face by making your MC seem more bland and lazy b...

Re: The Thorn Prince[regency][BxG]
Mammon: So, Prince William, would you like your grande palace to be filtered real images or handdrawn BGs that will look simplistic and crude? William: Both those options sound rather lazy, peasant. Mammon: But I've already got so much work left to do for your project. William: Fine, then just give ...

Re: CG Question
As little as possible. CGs, and art in general, are a lot of work and easily underestimated by newcomers. I don't know how big you intend your game to be and how much assets you envision, but it's almost inevitable that the workload will be greater than anticipated. I recommend: Write the story and ...

Re: Writing in 2nd Person?
I never really liked the 2nd person for a lot of the same reasons as already listed above: unless the character really resonates with me I'll be annoyed by the VN telling me what I do. The first person has that issue far less, if I don't like the MC I read the story like a journal they wrote.
