Re: No one using BMT Micro anymore?

Yeah, I still do use BMT at the moment, specifically because I like affiliate sales. Will probably not drop it entirely, but I will also be using itch.io+Steam moving forward, especially for free games. I've found some people are just happier to have a single place to store all their games.

Re: Game Jams: Upcoming & In General

For VNs, the most well-known is NaNoRenO. It's an annual event that's been running for over a decade now, and it's probably got the highest participation rate. It runs in March every year. You can find a list of previous runs here: https://www.nanoreno.org/

Re: Awards?

There used to be official LSF awards (The Lemmys), but the organizer bowed out of the scene a while ago. We have no intentions of hosting official awards anymore, but would be happy to see anyone who wants to run their own.

Re: Visualing the VN Market

Man, this is really interesting. I admit, I feel pretty cool seeing RE: Alistair++ has a stake in the otome community, and that Jisei and Ripples seem to be liked by both clusters. (If I'm reading it correctly.) It's also nice to see western VNs all over the place in terms of genre. Thank you for yo...

Re: Your VN making experience

As for finances, I'm lucky enough that the hobby pays for itself with a little extra to make the next game even more polished. It's hardly something I could make a living off of, but that's cool with me. I'm actually surprised by this because I did play a lot of your games, although RE: Alistair wi...

Re: Your VN making experience

Been doing this for I guess, a while now? Seven years, give/take. Overall, I'd call the experience rewarding, but also kind of unhealthy. The first few years especially were plagued with overwork and crunch and I kind of wrecked my well-being trying to get stuff done. Do not recommend. I'm a lot mor...

Re: Horrified--Games DO need warning labels.

A VN I wrote a while ago had a "twist" ending that relied pretty heavily on surprise. Tagging the genre and content up front would have made the ending immediately obvious, and the fun of trying to figure out a mystery would have been lost. That being said, I didn't want to misrepresent th...

Re: How often does one person create a full VN by themselves?

I did a couple on my own back in the day - art, writing, code, music, and voice all on my own. They were both fine, but I wound up remaking them eventually. Partnered with an artist on one , and used photo assets and music from other sources for the other . Given that the second was done with free a...

I don't mind LPs of my games, and different perspectives are always welcome. What's making you hesitant to more forward with the idea?

Re: Has competition an engaging or discouraging effect on yo

The healthiest outlook is to think of it as competition with yourself. You want to be better tomorrow than you are today. That's really about it.

Comparing yourself to other people can be pretty damaging in any direction, and I don't know if it necessarily produces good results anyway.

Some interesting numbers, although I didn't expect horror to be such an unpopular genre. D: Thank you for compiling this!

Re: Putting together a demo reel

Ooof. A little late to the party, haha. Hope this is useful anyway. >____> -How many samples should I ideally have in the reel? What emotions are the most important ones to convey? A demo reel is typically a minute-ish long, which each sample being around ten seconds. Easy math says that makes six v...

Re: How to make demo's for voice acting

If you're not sure what your voice is good for, I'd recommend holding off on the demo until you can get comfortable with how you sound recorded. A good place to start is just to grab a book or manga and record yourself reading it out loud. Experiment with different voices for each character (even on...
