Re: Promoting my visual novel in Japan

I'm getting lost here. Is the discussion on steam being bad? Are we questioning prices? What's the major issue with illegal sales of video games? A little help, please?

Re: When writing branches, what do you prefer?

I guess it depends on what you intend to do with your story. If the main idea is simply to get to know all of the different characters, I don't see a huge issue with the lack of an overlying plot (an example of this being the animal crossing games.) But the lack of a specific goal for the player wil...

Re: Promoting my visual novel in Japan

OP, in an attempt to get us back on track here, have you had any success? Granted, it hasn't been very long, but I'm curious if any of the previous suggestions yielded any results.

Assuming I can get all my eggs back into the basket, I'll be participating (at least in spirit.)

Re: When writing branches, what do you prefer?

Personally, I write out all of the choices before moving on so I don't lose track of what I have and haven't done, especially if each choice leads to its own little scene. The only times I jump ahead is if I have some crazy inspiration going for a different part, though that usually ends up needing ...

Re: Questions about Playtesting

I'd ask for specifics as to why they didn't like it. Ask specific questions and have them cite reasons as to what they did and didn't enjoy. If a play tester says "I don't like it" they need to be able to offer some insight on their conclusion.

When you say finding an item, do you mean through gameplay or just as a plot point?

Right there with you electromancer, due to scope issues and some minor work stuff I had to reset myself. But hey, the turtle didn't start in first place, right?

Re: Should I make an otome?

As someone who is in a near identical spot as you, the main issue I constantly come across isn't whether or not I can do it or if I should do it. Its a matter of how badly I want to do it. Making a VN, or heck even a kn is a ton of work, especially solo. If you're willing to put the time in to learn...

Re: Episodic Chapters

I think there might be a slight miscommunication; I meant as in a single VN where each chapter felt like a diferent episode. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough

Re: Episodic Chapters

Outside of it being either a comedy or a parody, wouldn't it get somewhat repetitive or prebictable? What would keep people invested from chapter to chapter? Well written characters alone can only go so far. So, in your opinions, what would keep you invested? Exploring the setting? Or would a likabl...

Episodic Chapters

So I was going about my usual business, brainstorming and whatnot, and I started thinking, what if chapters read like seperate episodes. Not an episodic release, but in a Cowboy Bebop sort of thing, where each chapter was its own little story arc, rather than a part of one large arc. Not that they w...

Its not really a book, but I think the last thing I read was King Worm by Poe. It was from a book of his works if that counts

Re: How do you come up with ideas?

I look at what types of things I enjoy in terms of stories and art and try to extract the specific parts that I liked. Things like genres, character types, plot points, ect. Then just shave them down and simplify them, so I have a base. Also, I compile any idea I have, no matter how I feel about it....
