Re: What software is out there for making VNs or VN-like gam
I don't get why people say Unity is easy. I've been working with an experienced Unity developer for almost a year now and there are many times the development gets tedious and frustrating as a result of decisions the Unity development team makes between versions of Unity. That said he already has h...

Unity isn't tailored to any specific genre, though the tools available make it easier to build a 3D world than with any of the other tools listed in this thread.LVUER wrote:AFAIK, Unity is focused in making 3D FPS game but that doesn't mean you can't make other kind of game with it.

Re: What software is out there for making VNs or VN-like gam
Unity is actually super easy to use, even for those non-programmer types. Everyone is saying that it is a bit extreme for making a VN, and while they're right, if you want to make games in general and not just VNs, it might be worth learning (more so than Game Maker/RPGMaker). If you REALLY want to ...

Re: Exit/Corners [Intrigue][Episodic]
Alrighty... thanks for the feedback thus far. I've updated the blog with details concerning our engine, which currently produces something like this: http://www.exitcorners.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/ExitCorners-Product-Screenshot-001.png I've also posted a couple more character sprites on the b...

Re: Exit/Corners [Intrigue][Episodic]
Thank you kindly for reading the blog posts; I know there's a lot to read. And don't worry about sounding harsh; generally, I find that if people are preemptively apologizing for being harsh, they aren't being harsh at all. Besides, I'd rather have honest and harsh criticism than no criticism ...

Re: Ideas to make a more mainstream VN
*text which is true for games* There is just one little thing wrong with all of that; visual novels are not games! They're books, advanced books, book+ if you will. They're not altogether different. Both are virtual mediums that incorporate visuals and sound that boast a variety of outcomes based o...

Re: Ideas to make a more mainstream VN
Personally, I feel as if there are a lot of things that can be done to make this type of game more appealing to the traditional western gamer. However, it seems that many developers here are afraid to deviate away from the Japanese Visual Novel model. There's nothing wrong with that, though I feel t...

Re: Non-anime, non-romance VN?
I really loved this post. You summed it up pretty precisely. The "made in Japan" crowd is impossible to cater to. The only game to make them bat an eyelid is Katawa Shoujo, and that was made to JVN specifications (except the photographic backgrounds). Most of the games here are mostly for...

Re: Non-anime, non-romance VN?
I was going to wait until my project was ready to launch to register for these forums, but I felt compelled to chime in. I've been lurking these forums for a while and yes, at a glance, it would appear that romance games with a Japanese-inspired aesthetic experience more popularity and hype. It cert...
