Re: The Insidious Manipulation of Mr. Jones [NaNo13, BxG, Sc
[...]It's all about the experience you create for the player :) But I vehemently disagree that having no choices gives MORE freedom than having some choices. For instance, maybe one of the highways takes you on the scenic route through Sparkling Yaoitown. If I avoid that route, I exercised a choice...

Re: Serious Question TIme: Can guys write otome games?
I think I'd personally have more problems writing the men in an otome game than the protagonist girl. For some reason otome players will always go for the jerk with a heart of gold, which boggles my y-chromosomed mind, and I can't really see such types as plausible characters either. I mean, if I ge...

Re: How do you choose name for main character?
I find it easier to come up with names when I take my home country (the Netherlands) as the setting, so that I can just use fairly common names that I like and they'll still be fresh and exciting for foreigners. I want to show you what neat names we have! I imagine it'd be easy enough to find neat n...

Re: The Insidious Manipulation of Mr. Jones [NaNo13, BxG, Sc
I'll just throw in a tangential comment here about how I loved Knights of the Old Republic (the 2003 one, not the MMO), but was always annoyed that (a) there was no benefit to being neutral (gameplay-wise the "right" choice was to commit to either light or dark), and (b) the logic of &quo...

Re: Text for speech balloons
@apricotorange: Oh dear, I'm afraid I couldn't code myself out of a wet paper box, and I was very happy for my last project that I got imagemaps to work properly. If you'd be so kind as to help out, I'd very much appreciate that! @nyaatrap: Thank you, now that you show it, I remember seeing that tec...

Text for speech balloons
I am trying to make a VN that uses speech balloons instead of classic bottom text. Now, I've read some previous discussions on this board on the same topic, but they all seem to focus on the balloon themselves; I'm afraid I'm going to have to do them all manually anyway, so I don't care about that. ...

Re: The Insidious Manipulation of Mr. Jones [NaNo13, BxG, Sc
Hey, look, someone wrote an article that's much like my argument a mere handful of days after I released Jones . Perhaps it's more coherent. If nothing else, I can comfort myself with being "current". I finally played this last night :D I had a lot of fun with it. After "winning,"...

Re: The Insidious Manipulation of Mr. Jones [NaNo13, BxG, Sc
@Obscura: I'm not sure our experiences are that much different from each other; I hate those decisions you mention too, in which you're force to act in a way that you disagree with. But it seems that we diverge at that point and you decide that the solution is to have more and better options; wherea...

Re: The Insidious Manipulation of Mr. Jones [NaNo13, BxG, Sc
Whoah, easy there. I apologise if I offended you  . I utterly disagree with this. You're making an incorrect distinction between games and books. Books have ALWAYS been a means of thought and emotional manipulation, to which we willingly subject ourselves. People like to think they're more obj...

Re: The Insidious Manipulation of Mr. Jones [NaNo13, BxG, Sc
I liked the humor in this. I really liked the aesthetics, especially the backgrounds and how they contrast with the sprites. Your CODE WHY expression in the credits is what I find myself doing like 99% of the time I'm working on a project. Jones seems like a pretty smooth customer (as least, he was...

Re: Hotspot Help
Be sure to delete the cache folder and its contents in your game folder before you try to see if imagemap code works. I don't know if that's the problem here, but it had me up the wall with similar looking results for a while.

Re: Everyone Kickstart Yo!
Question(ish). In a traditional funding model, the risks and rewards are linked; whether it's funded by investors, publishers or self funded, the people who pay the money for development also make most money in return. What happens with Kickstarter is that the backers take all the risk, but if the ...

Re: The Insidious Manipulation of Mr. Jones [NaNo13, BxG, Sc
This was pretty cool. You've got a very distinctive voice that goes well with black comedy. I didn't really have any issues in this game aside from the line at the end about interactivity excluding the player. I could not comprehend the actual meaning of the sentence. Perhaps I've been so brainwash...
