Re: attention SERIOUS/professional writers! (non-writers too!)

Here's another little addition, a doodle I did of Ciel and Rex one day, looking quite odd together ^^;; (**don't look if you haven't read up through chapter 6, it's not technically a spoiler but....***) Predictably in one of the only styles I can pull off, the anime drawing style. I want this to be ...

Re: attention SERIOUS/professional writers! (non-writers too!)

Thanks for your valuable suggestions! I edited Ch. 1-5 and finally finished Ch. 6, the exciting result of Ciel's battle with the horrible fever and the first song reference of the novel. So, you can find the edited version riiight here as usual. I'm not sure how well the song titles work. In part, b...

Re: "The Missing Tickets" (mystery game)

I feel much inclined to call this an "experimental game", That's the word I've been looking for to describe it..... (I think I called it a "learning experience" before...) This was originally a children's game: I remember playing games when I was a kid that had various subgames ...

Re: Translating "The Missing Tickets" into Japanese

I have another translation-related question as well.
When a character speaks, do you have to put a little "u" before it if it's in Japanese?
i.e.

Code: Select all

##normal
a "Yes"
##japanese
a u"はい"
or does it convert to unicode automatically?

Translating "The Missing Tickets" into Japanese

I don't know how far this project will go, but I want to at least try it, for both the Japanese gamers and for those of us wanting to practice our Japanese. I ran across a problem when trying to localize the game according to the guide on renpy.org SyntaxError: invalid syntax (line 6) While compilin...

Re: Ideas Dump

post-modernism is awesome for literature and films, but as y'all point out, it's difficult to pull off well in a game, because sometimes there appears to be no plot and if there's no plot there's no resolution which means the game never ends. I played that piece-of-sh*t "Ephemeral Fantasia"...

Re: Cut-out animation

I have given up on any kind of 3d modelling/animation. When I do animation for my games, I just create it frame-by-frame, usually at less than the full 800x600. Since my graphics files don't take up much space overall, it seems to me to be a good approach, especially if you use Photoshop or somethin...

Re: "The Missing Tickets" (mystery game)

There was indeed a problem with the code. I forgot to fix the "sleep" action so that it restored alertness. I'll compile new versions of the game. Sorry about that ^^;;;

****UPDATE - I changed all the download links in the first post to version 2.0 *****

Re: "The Missing Tickets" (mystery game)

I don't know if I ever actually tested the game to see if you can get all of Midnight's endings, it was so long ago when I wrote 'em, but the endings you can get are: #4 best ending - (60+ intel, 50+ alert, 50+ happy) #1 worst (if you passed out from not being alert or if you failed the recital and ...

Re: Customize at the beginning versus pick a choice

To me, dafool, that last idea there is the ideal example that really gets a best-of-both worlds approach and if it could be pulled off, it would be the most awesome thing ever. I think it would require a great deal of programming, but it could be done. Game length would probably be the first thing t...

Random bit of funny otaku humor

My friend and I were trying to recall the name of a very controversial artist known for pushing the limits of explicit-ness (we later finally figured out it was Paul McCarthy) and I suggested "Hentai McPervert," who I defined as: a famous Scottish warlord known for his chains of cheap erot...

Re: Customize at the beginning versus pick a choice

I also think there are advantages to both approaches. Customize @ beginning lets you answer sort of "according to your own likes/dislikes" which works very well in a game where "you" are the main character because it sort of starts with a blank slate. I disagree that pick-a-choic...

Re: HARTBREAKER (Christy Hart) Development Thread

YOU MUST MAKE DEMO. MAKE DEMO. MAKE DEMO. Well, as soon as I finish all the backgrounds for the first part that could be done. The beginning is almost all story and setup, not much gameplay, but if I DO make a demo, it'll go up through the first battle probably. I never do the art and stuff for my ...
