Re: When to announce?
I'm not arguing against trailers. I'm arguing against premature trailers. When I see a good trailer, my interest level is at its highest. If I can see the movie right there and then, I will. If I see the trailer multiple times, I get annoyed and my interest drops. If I don't hear about the movie ag...

Re: When to announce?
When movies come out and I haven't seen a single trailer/ad, I'm not going to bother. I'm not arguing against trailers. I'm arguing against premature trailers. When I see a good trailer, my interest level is at its highest. If I can see the movie right there and then, I will. If I see the trailer m...

Re: When to announce?
Art is for the sake of expression, so I think having a WIP thread to generate some kind of response to the work one has done so far will help one to feel more motivated about doing the project. Art is about producing a finished product, even in the case of performing arts (where the product is the ...

Re: When to announce?
When I read an announcement about a game that is not yet out, I tend to classify it as "vaporware", and I tend to dismiss any hype associated with the game as meaningless. When the game actually comes out, it will have three disadvantages compared to a new game released without any pre-rel...

Re: First person writing
Comic books are as visual as visual novels, but tend to use third person. Movies are as visual as visual novels, tend to use third person. Both of these media occasionally use first-person narration, but generally keep narration to a minimum, and almost always use third-person visuals (i.e. world no...

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
Have JAST USA take up majority stake in NovelStream and make it their primary web channel. Then it won't disappear, I can assure you :D Bigger companies than JAST go under all the time. Also, services go under all the time even if the companies stick around. Microsoft is as big as they come, but th...

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
I'm also a programmer, and I adore strings, but when you're writing a story it makes more sense to treat the text as main and code as 'other'. I suspect this is less of a writer/programmer issue and more of a adv/nvl (or dialogue/other text) issue. When writing dialogue, it's natural to use quotes....

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
I also see that you disabled the ability of websites to dictate right click. Well, you can't have it both ways, demand a fully featured VN but then disable crucial features. Hey, I'm not the one who decided to turn my web browser into a delivery mechanism for visual novels! If a web page doesn't di...

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
1) Our core concept is streaming. However I think streaming as a concept is proven though, I rarely hear people demanding to watch Youtube or Hulu offline for example. I use the DownloadHelper Firefox extension to download YouTube videos. It's a fairly popular extension, which indicates that quite ...

Re: NovelStream: Revolutionary visual novel platform
I have to say that my first impression is overwhelmingly negative. Feature comparison: Streaming versus download. This is a huge win for Ren'Py. I like being able to read when my internet connection is down. I like being able to make a backup. I like being able to store visual novels from different ...

Re: [POLL] For those outside generic game niches.
To be honest, these are individual game design issues rather than problems with the approach in general; good point-and-click adventure games will ensure that you have all the items you need for future puzzles, for example (mainly, I think, just by only requiring items which were previously necessa...

Re: [POLL] For those outside generic game niches.
I am not sure about you, but I have heard from a few people complaining about the investigation part most of the time when playing PW series. They would prefer to get back into the suspense of the courtroom rather than being a search hound clicking all over the place for new discoveries. This. I lo...

Re: Please be careful who you give business to.
Indie game companies are startups, they usually can't pay their workers to the point of being a stereotype. Sorry, that's bullshit. This forum has several indie developers who have been in business for years and who have always paid their subcontractors. I would even go so far as to say that if you...

Re: Please be careful who you give business to.
As for what you have a problem with, I see it as a problem with the entrepreneurial business model. We're trying to have our business take off. We can't pay our workers currently, that's part of the definition/situation of a Start Up. We need backing, and support. We asked for it today and yesterda...
