Re: Backgrounds....

Why not start by drawing on a transparent layer, then add the background on another layer(s) underneath?

Hang on, I re-read that and thought...did she mean on paper!
If you don't want to block things out to begin with
I used to used acrylic paint, as you could paint over things more easily.

Re: [Group Play 13] Super Otome Quest

I really enjoyed reading this, my kind of humour and eighties references always a bonus! I wasn't expecting the degree of difference in the endings which made playing each route well worthwhile (though I think I maybe missed one looking through the background images in the game file.) This is quirky...

Re: This week on Extra Credits: Beyond Fun

@Junna I loved Dire Grove because of the story elements...though to be fair the game seemed better than the live action videos. The artwork was superb as well. Syberia is another game which stood out for me in the same way, because the story in itself was interesting and imaginative, and the artwork...

Re: Machinima, Microsoft, and YouTube's Partner system

It is possible, some might say preferable, to make machinima using assets which allow for reuse in whatever way you like. It is only using *game* assets, with eulas which forbid their use commercially, which causes a problem. So yes you can use someone else's assets, and profit from it, if the licen...

Re: New Screen for new NVL textbox or NVL_Variant?

I don't have anything helpful to add technically, but if this is a case of features being lost because it looks like people don't need them, I'd like to add my vote to having easier to mod NVL screens. Even in my second piece of work I really wished to do things with the NVL which didn't seem possib...

Re: This week on Extra Credits: Beyond Fun

I think the issue is, that by the time consumers want more from games, they stop having the time and money to drive the market. The games you want to play when you are 27 are a universe away from what amused you when you were 17, but now you have rent to pay, and work to worry about, and you get hom...

Re: Machinima Entreprenuers/Artists punished by Microsoft

Even in the machinimators did more work than the original artists, they still wouldn't, by terms of the EULA, be able to use game assets in a commercial film. There is as wide a range of effort and artistic input in machinima as anything else. @Obscura, if you want to use the sims in a non commercia...

Re: Translation problem about "embrace" and "hug"

A hug sounds friendly, and embrace sounds more passionate.
I don't think I would read 'sex' for embrace without an extra word in front of it......and even then it would still be a metaphor.
Embrace seems romantic, has a bit of an old fashioned air about it.
Hug can be cute.

Re: Machinima Entreprenuers/Artists punished by Microsoft

This isn't a new principle, machinima made using microsoft games can't be used commercially. Actually there isn't a games company who allow you to use their assets in a commercial machinima. Unless you are machinima.com, where presumably backroom deals have been done. Thankfully there is now a good ...

Re: [Group Play 18] Winter Shard

@Arelune thank you! I think I haven't completed all the ending but a got two, one being the good ending. This was quite epic story-wise, felt like a norse legend. I loved Krotus, the villain, especially how he was drawn all in black and blue with lighter edges and highlights. Lots of moral choices, ...

Re: GUI problem for beginner .

I'm finding inkscape to be very useful for graphic work. It uses vectors, so it is uber easy to go back and change sizes without worrying about redoing everything. You can easily shuffle things around, and reorganise. It is free has a few quirks, and has the occasional why, why why?? moments but is ...

Re: Tips for Quickly & Accurately laying down Flats?

I'm wondering if this gimp plugin might be of any use to you?
http://registry.gimp.net/node/14051
I've just been playing around with it this week.
It is hopeless (too slow) on very complex images, but might work for lineart.
You would of course need to bucket fill and change colours afterwards.
