Re: Looking for a programming consultant

This sounds like a job for a ConditionalSwitch: http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/doc/reference/functions/ConditionSwitch Just create a variable based on the choice you made, and then use that variable in the conditional switch. The example here is for a bg image, but it can easily be used with a norm...

Re: Experienced Writer Available for Commercial Projects [Op

It may be useful for people looking to hire to actually see some examples of things you've written. That way it'll be easier for people to see if your style matches with what they're trying to do. Good luck finding work!

Re: Q: How to show RPG stats in navigation menu

I believe you can also do a \t for a tab, so that way you can have it look like I think you're intending in the first post. Good luck!

Re: Vita Tv or 3DS

If you have an iOS device, you can get 999 and Ghost Trick on them which is really awesome. The 3DS has some good titles, and its less a "dying" platform as Vita isn't releasing many new titles from it. That being said on the Vita end Danganronpa is very awesome, and the Vita also has the ...

Re: How to run a successful kickstarter? (And a little more)

So 250k words for a first project sounds a little bit like overkill. You said you had a demo of sorts, but I'm not sure how large it is compared to what you're planning on making. My suggestion is to first create a smaller title, say 25k (10% of what you're planning) and make sure you know the amoun...

Re: Commission review system?

Well, I know there are people that do post on people's hire me page, but it's mostly friends of the person or good experiences. I haven't really seen any bad reviews in the past. I think there was a post about doing something like this on a separate site awhile back, but I forget what happened to it...

Re: Can Ren'Py be used on a chromebook?

Man that's unfortunate. I too have a Chromebook that I take to school with me. It'd be amazing to be able to develop a game while in between classes. Well, in reality all you need is a text editor to work on your project in terms of writing the script and programming; then you can compile the game ...

Re: Fungus (open source IF / VN program)

For any one that has spent more time playing around with Fungus - does it have the ability to do other common VN commands such as Skip and Auto? These aren't deal breakers to me - I just figured it'd be nice to have! :) Not by default, but it's something you can add in code. That's something I did ...

Thanks so much guys for the kind words. Re: Could Ren'py Develop Games For Vita?

Sadly, developing for consoles is still the one of the few downsides to using Ren'Py in your projects. However, for most people developing projects it's not really a concern so I think developing new features that help everyone may be a better use of time than for just the few.

Re: What is a vbox?

A vbox is a vertical box, and an hbox is an horizontal box. Basically all the objects you put in there will be placed either vertically or horizontally from each other.

Hope this helps!

Re: Thoughts on Episodic Releases

Agreed with papillon, usually is a bad idea. After the Dischan fiasco, I'm personally much more wary of crowdfunded episodic VNs. I'll just say that if you do decide to do an episodic release, do it the Telltale way. Before you release the first episode, have it (or the script at least) already comp...

Re: Novelation - A Visual Novel Tool for Unity

Hey Kristian, Exciting to hear you're working on an asset for Unity. What do you think is going to be able to set you apart from other VN tools on Unity such as Fungus? A killer feature for the users of this forum I'm sure would be the ability to import scripts written in RenPy to work with yours. C...

Re: Anime and Ethics: Horrible Work Conditions In the Indust

I'll also say that the more favorable the job, generally the lower the pay. As a programmer, I can get a lot more money working on say software than games because with games there's so many people who want to do it, if you leave another person would gladly take your place. Now they have it much wors...
