Re: Daddy Lies [BxB, 18+, Romance, Slice of Life, Family]
I love this community, don't get me wrong, but sometimes I have almost considered "selling out" myself to appeal to a wider audience or to be more accepted in an environment that is more critical and hostile to darker themes like slavery or rape, even when it is crucial to my plot. I orig...

Re: How To Add Window For Centered Text?
...Yes? I think you need to be more specific about what exactly you're asking about.
That looks to me like they're either using the nvl-mode with a custom nvl screen (overlay image) or a custom text box redefined to fill the screen.
Did you look at the default nvl-mode Ren'Py has?

Re: Help Critiquing Detective VN Script!
I'm not sure what kind of opinion you want here. Do you want honest feedback? Encouragement? Editing suggestions? The harsh truth? Either way I'd suggest doing an edit of the script now, not after critique, as there's not just "a few spelling/grammar issues" - there's mistakes in almost ev...

Re: How To Add Window For Centered Text?
Do you mean the NVL-mode?
Renpy has a default NVL-mode background (that can be changed - check the gui folder) that shows up whenever you have a character defined as a nvl-mode character talking - define j = Character("Julie", kind=nvl).

Re: Setting formatting for specific characters/narration
As trooper said, almost everything can be defined per character. For example, here's how I have some of my characters defined in my game: # Dreams - NVL-Mode define dream_sequence = Character(None, kind=nvl, what_ypos=14, what_prefix="{cps=25}", what_suffix="{/cps}", ctc="ct...

Re: [Mostly Solved] Can't Change Font
It's said several times in the documentation that "DejaVuSans" is the default font supplied with the engine - for example here : Changing Fonts Ren'Py ships with a default font (DejaVuSans) that covers most western languages, but other fonts are often needed. It's also mentioned under gui ...

Re: Can't Change Font
You need to supply the font. You can download free fonts from google . If you put it somewhere other than the main "game" folder you also need to tell it where to look: define.gui.text_font = "font/roboto.ttf" (this example means I've put the downloaded font into a folder called ...

Ooh, happy to see progress on this! I played the demo a while ago, and have been keeping an eye on further development.
I really liked Lorenzo btw, he was a lot of fun to converse with.

Re: Name my game
"all in a day" - Google tells me a spesific charity event was called this, but that doesn't seem like a conflict of interests (from the expression "all in a day's work") "Silas' reversal" - (because he reverses events, but his heroic disposition might also be facing a r...

Re: Handling the typical bland protagonist
But why? Why does the character have to be agreeable and dull? Why can't they have agency? I can't write characters without exploring their backstory and what happened to make them who they are today. With my head stories it just comes naturally, they tend to start in medias res and then get an expl...

Re: Relating to a character in a fantasy or SciFi story
I find it hard to understand -not- relating to a character in a fantasy or sci-fi personally. Circumstances and worlds might be different, but emotions and fears are pretty universal. The important thing is if we understand the character's motivations and can empathize with them. This would be the s...

Re: LGBT visual novels- How do you like your endings?
I agree with both previous posters. Please do bad endings, just don't have someone kill themselves (or sacrifice themselves for the protag) because them being LGBT means they can never find love/have a romantic ending.

Re: Signed and Sealed with a Kiss (Romance/Comedy) (G/BxB)
-Does this game sound like something you would play? Why or why not? No. The "build-a-boyfriend" concept just doesn't appeal to me, sorry. I like my characters to be complicated, coloured by their experiences and have their own goals/views. Getting a blank slate and molding it into my &qu...

Re: Any ideas to incentivize a protagonist to play RSP?
Could do a twist on the original idea and have the protag join for the possibility of naked girls (strip RPS?) but end up becoming engaged in the competitive aspect of the whole thing.
I really liked Qwxlea's Ayn Rand idea, that sounds fascinating!
