I threw out five months of work out the window, and I haven't felt this refreshed and relieved in ages.
Working on it again, I've managed to condense it a lot. At some point, I felt like I hated writing parts of the work, but now I've cut all those scenes from the outline. Feels good.

Re: Non-native english speaker needs critique
I regularly say and hear "gg" when speaking over voice chat. I also don't quite understand the Russian potatoes joke. Is "k" saying that, by the way they played (and lost) the game, one might think they were playing the game on Russian potatoes rather than computers? There might ...

Re: Polite Speech
I'm currently writing a story where characters talk differently to others depending on their rank/seniority. Are there more indicators that I can use for a more subtle shift? Or do you think that shifting the politeness outside of the dialogue and using body language would do the job better? Since ...

Re: Let's get rid of DEAD WORDS
You mentioned English teachers. That's usually where things go wrong. English teachers teach creative writing, which is a different beast altogether from writing. Using "therefore" instead of "so", and then a synonym of it as much as possible may make your text more "excitin...

Hang on, Erikson as in, Steven Erikson? Malazan Book of the Fallen? What missteps did he make? (Other than the verbosity of some characters boring me to death?)Why do I get the feeling you're judging the entire genre on people like Martin and Erikson alone.

Re: Three writing tips you shoudn't listen to
I remember reading how John Scalzi almost put down Rothfuss's novel because five bowls of stew were served on page 4. Stew being the most cliche of all fantasy world meals. ("Not a 'hearty stew' fantasy!" Scalzi wrote). I'd think that a little too petty. Telling authors to invent differen...

This. It's only not considered a visual novel if you don't involve choices.Haze wrote:I believe a VN with choices that don't affect the story is called a "linear visual novel".

Re: Visuals for KN
I also hate the term "KN", if only because it is the only sub-set of Visual Novels that gets its own name and needs to be referred to as something else. 2dt, I think suddenly calling everything by a new name would be forced and impossible to do; we're not exactly in charge of a 'market' he...

Re: Visuals for KN
Common consensus appears to be that a good Visual Novel does away with the Novel part and exchanges it for Gameplay; you "play" a Visual Novel, you do not read it. Er, what? Common consensus where? I'm pretty sure most people care quite a bit about the 'novel' part, and equating selecting...

Common consensus appears to be that a good Visual Novel does away with the Novel part and exchanges it for Gameplay; you "play" a Visual Novel, you do not read it. "Kinetic Novels" then are outliers for real, as they concentrate on storytelling over gameplay. Does a unique visual...

Police stopped by because of a noisy neighbour, uncover a bag of a Russian lady containing her passport, credit card, and stuff. Here's the kicker: She doesn't live here. And that bag's been there for a day or two. Ah.... Humanity ._. It's actually a little worrisome, but it was tucked away neatly ...

Re: Looking for someone experienced in matters of law!
As a correction to the previous post of mine: I did some research and actually, European countries like their juries, too. Germany being an exception. They're similar to the Dutch system, or maybe the Dutch system is similar to theirs? Either way, this means a judge will preside and a jury isn't inv...
