Recently, I've been doing one layer speed paints with only extra layers for effects. The results have been pretty eye-pleasing although I should get back to doing lineart again.

I think a thing to keep in mind is how the sprite's eyes will look when zoomed out. Up close, yes, the detail isn't bad and the luminous quality is pretty nice.
