Re: Combat system advice?

My pet peeves would be: Triggering random encounters every five seconds. (The Mushroom Rock Road sequence in Final Fantasy X comes to mind here.) Battles are fun, but when I can't take more than two or three steps without starting ANOTHER one it gets annoying. Games that FORCE you to level grind. It...

Re: Something I found on Jamendo

Thanks for posting the link - I'd never heard of Jamendo before reading this, but it looks like there's a lot of great music there. (Now if only I could find some that a: fits the game I'm working on and b: comes with a licence I can use that won't require me to let people do things to my game that ...

Re: The new renai.us/games.renpy.org support thread.

Whenever I view the archives (both renai.us and renpy.games.org) the sidebar with the categories etc overlaps the box with the main text of whatever page I'm viewing. Among other things, this completely blocks the download link for any game. :(

Re: Question for people with completed games

keep in mind, that a lot of people have laptops, which are wide screen! That is far more important problem, because when 1024x768 starts on a 1200x800 screen, it's horrible This. I downloaded the Spirited Heart demo recently, which I think is in 1024x768. It's a great game, but I have to choose bet...

Re: time-limited games

On the original topic, I actually really like the idea of having only a certain amount of time in-game to do something, so long as you are aware there's a limit and it isn't something silly like five seconds of real time. It adds more "game" to the VN, which is something I'm always happy t...

Re: When an image becomes too offensive?

I don't find it offensive as such, just... vaguely distasteful. It's not something I personally enjoy looking at.

Re: How much convenience can you stand?

When writing fiction, I find a good rule of thumb is that coincidences may be used to make a character's life more difficult - although even then too many will make people sceptical - but they should never, ever be used to solve a character's problems. Like all general rules, though, there may well ...

Re: Guestbook

Hi all. I'm eighteen years old, Scottish but living in England, have been an anime fan for a long while and am interested in making visual novels. I love art and want to study illustration at university. (In fact I have an interview the day after tomorrow. :? ) I'm a pretty good writer, too. You can...
