Scene Background Pictures - Where?

Hi fellow gamemakers, Does anyone have a proposal where to get good (and freely usable) picture material from? To be used as backgrounds, or then as reference for drawing. I'm quite impressed with http://www.morguefile.com/, but I'm still missing typical Ren'ai scenes like School buildings, librarie...

Excellent hint, thanks! Combining character names on one screen could be useful, I remember it worked pretty well in Kana and Seasons of Sakura. Colour is not an issue currently IMHO (I'll have the same colour for every character).

Hi Tom! Fade in/out : wonderful, thanks!!! Animated text : Agreed, continuous zooming doesn't make sense. For static size changes, the text properties' size parameter will suffice. The Move approach is perfect, thanks! And being able to move images as a kind of side effect is a pretty neat feature. ...

Since this is a serious threat of yours, I'll take the call. :-) Please don't curse me for always coming up with new things.. Fade in/fade out for music (when closing a scene, it's maybe nicer to have a smooth fade-out of the music currently running instead of just cutting it off)? (There's one soun...

Sounds as different from music, we will support sounds that can be used as sound effects and things like that. Very good! So basically sounds could be played even while wave-based (mp3, ogg) music is running, yes? I've implemented all of the features mentioned above, and then some. Heavens, you're ...

Agree with all points! Last comment (promise!) about the the time-based element/music synchro: The check should probably be for "if current music position equal or later time parameter". This to make sure that the script can catch up in case it missed the correct timespot (it could happen ...

Hi Tom, Just off the top of my head, these are things I could think of. I want to emphasize Ren'Py is already excellent as is - I'm now trying to be creative. It might be nobody else needs anything like this, so it's rather meant to start a discussion. Time-based elements : In some cases, we might w...

Congratulations, PyTom! I'm amazed at the demo. Especially the transition effects (although I'm more of a purist and would probably use them sparingly) and the rollback. Also very good to think of mouse and keyboard support. Thanks a lot for the great work! Now if only my company would stop having m...

Hi Tom,

I agree, it's of course a matter of taste (and of the author) whether or not user input is needed. In any case, it's the least urgent thing, so don't worry - I'm not trying to push you here. Just curious! :)

Cheers,
Alessio

Hi Tom, Absolutely brilliant IMHO, thanks for taking the time to write that one. With that set of instructions, it should be a breeze to get started. I'm impressed about the things you thought of, since I'd been thinking those same issues over and over (menus with conditions; handling of returns fro...

Hi Mikey, Played RT for the first time yesterday (ending #4). Congratulations, it's a really good one. The story is gripping and full of unexpected twists, and the style is gorgeous IMHO. Colours and shapes just work wonderfully. I'm starting to think you're the Jim Jarmusch of Ren'ai. :-) The only ...

My current plan is that each Ren'Py game will ship with its own copy of the engine. This means that the game doesn't need to worry about being future-proof, and the engine doesn't have to care as much about backwards compatibility. I agree it's the easiest way, I was just a bit worried about the pa...

This is only IMHO: 800x600 is not necessarily a bad idea; I feel however that there might be situations when even 640x480 is acceptable (say, to reduce the file size) if it is zoomable to fullscreen. What about making the size user-definable? That way, everything is possible, and older RenPy games w...

That sounds really excellent. Yes, I agree this way is much better than just having fixed default locations. Much more flexible. When you say "transformations that are applied to the image", do you actually also mean animations and such (e.g. blinking eyes, hair moving in the wind etc.)? A...
