Re: J.P. Griswold [Mystery, Sci-Fi] [Webstory]

@Serenity Frost: That's an interesting project you're working on! Good luck with that. If you encounter anything silly with the engine, let me know. Oh, by the way: It seems that you need some kind of image map for parts of your game mechanics to work. If you want to do that in the WebStory Engine, ...

@Serenity Frost:
By reading your post I realized that I just declined your request to join the forums... in the rules thread I said that you should write something meaningful in the box so I can see you are not a bot. Please try again.

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@muggy8 & @planktheory: Thanks! @planktheory: Good to know you are still alive and kicking. I wondered whether you had abandoned your VN because you haven't posted on your blog for some time. As for your question: Currently there is no video asset. It is planned for the next release. It will not...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@Boomsickle:

Thanks. It loops because at the end of the WebStory there's a <restart /> command. If you leave that out it doesn't loop, which is the default behaviour.

Re: VN Engine for the Web

I'm unsure at how it would work if someone actually did python coding at all though. Well, there are some Python to JavaScript compilers out there and I'm aware of at least one Python interpreter written in JavaScript. http://www.skulpt.org/ I'm not really familiar with writing Ren'Py scripts, but ...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@Shad12ow: You try to start a track that is not defined in your asset. There is no track "Touch The Sky" defined in your audio asset... Also, you will need an OGG Vorbis file to enable music in Firefox. MP3 works in IE and Chrome, but not in Firefox; OGG Vorbis works in Firefox and Chrome ...

Maybe I should write another path in the introduction that features Lia... and then at the beginning have a choice:

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@briannavon: It really depends what kind of battle system the RPG would have. You probably cannot write a good RPG without extending the engine. But if you are up to the task: the engine is quite easily extensible... you can write your own assets and commands and hook to pretty much any existing fun...

There will be a typewriter effect in the next version, 0.3:

A preview of the next version: http://webstoryengine.org/webstories/basic-effects2/ - that's the effect you mean, right?

@Shad12ow:

It's behaviour="nvl" on the Textbox asset. And with the command <clear asset="name_of_texbox" /> you clear the text on the textbox.

Re: VN Engine for the Web

@Shad12ow: I would be interested in what parts of the WebStory Engine documentation you'd like to see improved. It's difficult for me as the developer to see what information VN developers really want to know about the engine. You could say, as the developer of something, you are a little clueless a...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@Shad12ow: You are welcome. I develop it because it's fun. I will release a new version soon. I cannot say when exactly, but version 0.3 is not too far away. I recently created a roadmap page in the wiki: http://webstoryengine.org/roadmap There you can see what changes the new version brings and the...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that I found a possible solution for the caching issue. It will take a lot of time developing it because it spans two different storage solutions, but it will work in Chrome and Firefox (and maybe even Internet Explorer 10?). For those interested in the technical stuf...

Re: WebStory Engine - A Visual Novel Engine for the Web

@Keul: No, I guess you mixed up app cache and localStorage. App cache is meant to make web apps available offline. localStorage is a way to save some data that the application uses on the client. It's not meant to cache the whole application. Unfortunately, for bigger visual novels, you might still ...
