Re: Preferred screen Resolution

There have been multiple threads about this in the past, and the consensus/final answer has pretty much always been to use full HD (1920x1080p) resolution, since it's the most common, and while it's always possible to fit a bigger resolution game in a smaller screen, stretching a small resolution g...

Preload assets and large images

I've been using very high quality images but when the images are shown, there is a lag and it takes a little too long to show the image. And this happens for all the large images. So what I want to ask is, how do you preload assets so that the game doesn't have to have small lag spikes. I would rath...

Making an SRPG from scratch

I've been trying to make a battle engine from scratch, but it's starting to look like an obscene amount of variables and if statements. I need to condense or completely remake it. The format is supposed to be like a SRPG with a 9x3x3 grid. 9 length, 3 width, and 3 height. The enemy/ally ai is a bunc...

Re: Preferred screen Resolution

According to Steam about 40% of PC gamers have 1080p screens. 25% have 1366x768. Ergo 1080p makes the most sense as a default resolution. Your res is very small, unless you are working on a retro type game. If 1080p is the most common then I'll probably go with that. It depends on your art work as ...

Preferred screen Resolution

What's your preferred screen resolution?

The game I've been working on has the screen set to 1024 x 600. Before I develop the menus and arena anymore, I want to see if anyone has any preferences for screen size.

Re: Games with 100+ characters

Touhou gets away with it, but that's because it's a series (it's a bullet hell game, if you aren't familiar with it). In each game, there are usually 2 or 3 reused characters, and then the other 7 or 8 are new in every game. I think that Touhou has something like 129 characters now, or something ri...

Re: Games with 100+ characters

I have found that the optimum cast size for a VN is 20-25 characters, 30 if you have episodic casts that come and go in groups. Are you sure your story is impossible to tell with fewer characters? The story would work in arcs and be very episodic, like how anime like onepiece has story arcs. It's p...

Re: Fanmade game copyright?

As for the donation... fanworks are ideally made out of love, not for the money. You could, however, use your game to promote your site/service (for example, art commission) and gain some money from there. So use fanwork to advertise yourself, and make money from your own original work. Trying to s...

Games with 100+ characters

What do you thing about a game with more than 100+ characters? Note: concider that each character contributes to the story and 70% of the characters are guaranteed to die somehow leaving only 30% of the cast which is a mix of good guys and bad guys. Edit: I see that the common opinion is that wouldn...

Re: Mecha Dating sim!! No humans!!

I like it. The red and pink look good. Aside from shading, the best way to give them a metal look is to use a color like blue (an example, you can use any color), as the primary color and then use either light blue or dark blue as the seconary color. (Kinda of like how you did with Alouette, but wit...

How to measure hours of gameplay

How do you measure the amount of time it takes to play through a game? Do you time it based on the main story, do you include side missions and side storys apart of it? Do you include all the extra things you can do in a game like completing the monster encyclopedia, recruiting all the characters, u...
