Re: Save-proof randomness
if you want to keep the player from savescumming an RPG scene or minigame while I can understand using this type of code if you want to set up a different course for your story each play-through or something, the reasons you mentioned are actually really bad. I would advise against that type of des...

Re: Dynamic Cursor Config
have you tried using pygame to change it?
http://www.pygame.org/docs/ref/mouse.ht ... set_cursor
alternatively, you could try to hide the mouse cursor and then put your own image in place of it.

Re: Visual Novels: Should We Abandon the Term? And How?
is anyone else bothered by the usage of "visual novel" for short stories?
I feel like "visual story" would often be more fitting.

Re: Working with Python code in Ren'Py
okay, firstly, init python is a combination of two blocks into one so that you don't need to indent as much. the init block is so that the code will run before the actual game begins (right before the menus I think). if you want to run complex python code anywhere else you can put it in a python blo...

Re: custom mouse cursor code
how do you change a mouse cursor when it hovers a specific imagebutton? as far as I know, there's no way to have the mouse cursor change based on the imagebutton itself, so you would need to instead tell the cursor to change when it hovers the area the imagebutton happens to be in. something like t...

Re: custom mouse cursor code
the only difference between putting the list on one line and putting it on multiple is that I find putting it on multiple line is easier to read. python (and thus renpy) can still tell that it's one list by looking at the brackets. you're right about the comments though. I tend not to think about th...

*Secondly, when I’m trying the paper valves puzzle with the poison bottles, I get a RenPy error each time I try to click on the valves. oh, and I had figured I got that only cause of cheated... it's probably this one: I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred. While running game code: File &quo...

Re: The Madness [Psychological Horror / Puzzle]
oh wow. there's a lot of comments here about finding the game scary. I guess I'm in the minority then, in that I find it rather tame. I zoned out the voices rather quickly (though that might be because I dislike putting the volume at the normal level). I also found the [mannequin?] to be somewhat la...

Whatever you do is ALWAYS protected by copyright laws. For example, in many Social Network or sites (like Deviant Art) you POINT OUT that you give the material for free, and that's your own production. But YOU DON'T HAVE ANY RIGHT to touch my .rpyc, if I DON'T EXPLICITLY GRANT YOU THE RIGHTS. I don...

when I saw the name I thought about this game:
http://vndb.org/v1303
it doesn't have it in the listing, but the caption, "I love so I want to kill you", is pretty similar at a glance.

because they focus on entertaining the watcher more while giving little tidbits of the idea throughout episodes and this is why I haven't been watching. I'm waiting for my friends to tell me if the anime ever actually gets to the point. honestly, I think this one spends too much time focusing on ju...

Re: Pick the forum members' brains for your game :)
I've been trying to research this for a while, and only just remembered this thread was here. I'm currently working on a supernatural mystery that will use the same system as my Leave the Room games (point-and-click, with four directions to look from every position). I'm trying to be very consistent...

the light novels ended the same way. the only difference right now between the two is the anime left out smaller details and skipped some scenes.
I've heard the blu-ray realise is supposed to include another book, but I can't verify that.

Re: Re:Set Episode 1 Remake : Thief of all Hearts [VN/RPG]
just played through a few times. not sure how I've completed since I couldn't see much difference each run-through. Certainly an enjoyable game. Good job overall. I found your story is less engaging than either the original version or doppleganger, however it's mainly due to preference (I have troub...
