Re: How do you advertise your VN?

Getting people to your blog can be done through a combination of increasing your Google PR (using any or all of the SEO tips outlined above), posting consistently well-written development articles with your RSS feed connected to http://planet.renai.us (this site automatically shows all VN developmen...

Re: How do you advertise your VN?

Pretty much the same way you'd do white hat link-building, I'd surmise. Personally, I'd do the following if my main goal was to get a large number of people to notice my game within a short span of time (keeping said attention should be up to the quality of the actual game, which you should be suffi...

Re: Which one should I choose? HDTV or PC Monitor?

@leon: Thanks. I'm aware of LVUER's initial question. Just wasn't sure why the question was asked. An LCD/LED TV costs about the same as an LCD/LED monitor with the same size and resolution here. Can't say I can really notice a marked difference in quality between the two, but maybe I just have pret...

Re: Sounds that scaer you that you thought couldn't scare yo

The sound of total deafening silence can be quite haunting if you find yourself in an isolated house with no electrical current and miles away from the next house. This is probably enhanced by the fact that stories spirits and malignant lower beings that can harm you if you so much as breathe the sa...

Re: Which one should I choose? HDTV or PC Monitor?

Nubbycakes question: Can't most LCD/LED TVs be also used a monitor nowadays anyway? My China-made LCD TV has the standard VGA port for PCs, normal A/V ports as well as the newer HDMI port.

Re: Best Way To Begin A Project

My personal method actually varies with each project. In practice, I've always been able to work better (that is, more consistently and without frequent stoppage) on a project if I was inspired by the need to have a particular scene play out within the story -- said scene being my main motivation fo...

Re: How Bad is a Bad Review?

On the other hand, as already discussed in a recent thread, getting a bad review doesn't necessarily mean that the game is bad -- just that a particular reviewer thinks it's bad. No matter how objective you try to be in a review, it will always be subjective. Furthermore, there's really nothing wron...

Re: How Bad is a Bad Review?

Of course, some people may also view this as sugarcoating. There is a fine line between being polite and being patronizing just like there's only a slight difference between being brutally honest and being honestly brutally annoying. In any case, whether you're the former or the latter, I think it's...

On that note, precedence indicates that a VN may find long-term success in terms of general public acceptance through a combination of: Excellent Art + Excellent Story Excellent Art + Competently Written Story Competent Art + Competently Written Story + Viral Marketing Campaign Minimalistic Competen...

Re: What is success for a VN?

Success for a free VN is what the creator considers to be a success -- or when the creator has been personally led to believe that his work is a success based on his personal standards. It could be some measure based on factors such as popularity, acceptance, number of downloads, number of positive ...

Since my game got dragged by wright1000 into this thread, I feel the need to reply. Posting it in LSF ...

Re: You ever worry your work won't be taken seriously?

I don't really have anything productive to add to this conversation, because a lot of things have already been said. I'd just like to state my conformity with Kura's sentiments. Yes, not everyone in the community is striving towards improvement or getting serious or getting more perfushenal, or writ...

Re: Disproportionate?

The pose and the hair look fine. The position of the shoulders makes the lineart look slightly tilted but not exactly disproportionate. Perhaps the arm on the right of the image might be jutting out too much (especially the elbow). What stands out for me is that the leg to the left looks much smalle...

Just like to add that vndb.org does has a voting system in place and generally has a more comprehensive list of EVN releases than renai.us

Re: Your games a reflection of yourself

I agree. My stories are indeed a reflection of myself and I am consciously aware of this. In fact, I view writing as a form of self-expression where my deepest desires and most vulnerable feelings can be freely exposed to the reading public. In general, though, the main protagonist of my piece is no...
