Re: Writing problems

Tenses, huh? That's a tough one, our writer has a lot of problems with that xD (I play the tenses drinking game when I'm editing it, everytime he screws something up, I take a drink [of water, or else I'd die of alcohol poisoning]) It really depends on the situation, but I would say present tense is...

Re: List of small goals for first time VN makers

At least they have endings, right? :P My "first" was just an experiment to see what Renpy could do (Oooh a shiny new toy! Squeeee~)(Please don't imagine me actually going "Squeeee~", it will hurt your brain.)(Not in a good way.) It involved a single menu with about six choices, a...

Re: VN based off of real book?

If it was, theoretically, made, the question we must now ask is... Can a program be killed by fire? And, what are the chances of it achieving sentience? ...Well, you could make it so there's a few hundred dead ends in the story, that would be interesting in a whole different way. But please, oh dear...

Re: Writing problems

Since I like being a smartass, I'll answer with another question xD What's easier to read, a book/series, or just one loooooooooooooong page several hundred meters long? Yeah :P (That wasn't a very smart analogy though...I need more practice :() I find that splitting it up makes it much easier to fi...

Re: List of small goals for first time VN makers

Well, it depends on the type of person you are, doesn't it? :P I like jumping straight into the deep end... Thanks to this forum, it's pretty easy to learn as you go, although the demo release I'm working on right now doesn't have too many flashy effects or complicated code (not ones that I made mys...

Re: Writing problems

Sure, why not-for me, I split seperate days into seperate .rpy files, although I'm only working on a single route at the moment, I presume the second route will be in seperate files, just to make it easier to sort.

Re: VN based off of real book?

I may need to procure a copy of this reactionface database. ...Okay, joking aside...OR NOT What about a VN of the bible, where everyone LOOKS LIKE FIST OF THE NORTHERN STAR. Yes, even Eve. Okay, stupidity aside for real now, what about finding a modern author who both has written moderately successf...

Re: Writing problems

Whatever works for you, works. That aside though, I'd recommend finishing the backstory and more or less setting it in stone before writing anything else; the reason being that backstory often has a profound effect on the personality of the characters and in some cases the plot. In a lot of major st...

Re: Sprites....

If you're only going for a short, simple story, then you can probably get away with only drawing 3/4 body sprites. If you're going for something longer or more complex though, you should probably have one or two full body sprites floating around just in case you end up with a situation where you eit...

Re: VN based off of real book?

I often find myself wondering what a movie/tv show/book/etc would be like in visual novel format, so I'd say it's a pretty viable idea-it might even appeal to a larger audience than the classic visual novels themselves, as a sort of cross between VNs and e-books. The biggest problems though imo (oth...

Weird, minor error with size and wait tags

pretty small, minor issue here. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n{size=+15}\"Bend over, K~{w=0.2}i~{w=0.2}y~{w=0.2}a~\"{/size} works fine, no errors, but it displays lower than it should while the text is appearing. when the text has fully appeared on screen, it 'moves' to its proper place. As in, it w...

Re: "expected ':' not found." - Help? .3.

menu: "Male." jump boy is missing, (exactly as the error log says xD) a ":" So it becomes menu: "Male.": jump boy and yes, you can't have spaces in the code for labels and whatnot, (files names are fine, like "Pictures/first cg.jpg" I think) Edit: Ah crap, so...

Re: Main menu music playing into the game

Music: put stop music right after the start of the game. Example: label start: stop music fadeout 1.0 scene happyunicornland with dissolve "OH MY GOD WHERE'S MY KIDNEY" As for the sounds...well, I can think of ONE way, except it'd be tedious as hell, so it's probably better if someone else...
