Re: Swan x Swan [YuriJam][Romance][Fantasy][GxG (obv!)]
PSA: Game is not dead! I had to put it on hiatus to get work prepped for a convention that came up out of nowhere. Gonna be back to finish it after that! Either way, I'm DEFINITELY not abandoning it. ETA is now December, and we'll see what happens ^^

Re: Swan x Swan [YuriJam][Romance][Fantasy][GxG (obv!)]
Actually Belphégor, I WAS originally only going to do a traditional Odette ending (albeit with a much more expanded part for Odile) the more I think about it, the more I want to do an Odile romance ending too. I'm having some trouble with it - finding the right points in the story to have it branch ...

Re: female mc persona questions
I find myself really disliking the passive characters that never do anything to advance the plot. Having a character just be "lucky" enough to stumble onto the plot just never feels right. But then again, I hate when car crashes (actual accidents, not secret plots or anything) occur in fi...

Re: Scribbles! The Secrets of Claire [Mystery][Yurijam]
I love the concept! My partner pitched me a similar idea because I enjoy sketching way more than inking or colouring, but I never finished a good plot to go with it. I hope yours turns out great! Also I love your character intros XD

Thanks folks! I'm definitely looking forward to the mother/daughter relationships, especially since they're so different in personality :D I got the idea to make Rothbart into Odette's mother (and Odile's actual sister) from thinking about how step-parents are always evil in fairytales (while biolog...

Re: Writing Style; 1st person narration VS 3rd person narrat
It will probably be hard, however; I think it's just narration is comfortable so we tend to use it more. It's a useful tool to convey the surroundings. When people say "show versus tell" in traditional novel writing, what they are saying is to make the most of your narration. We *need* it...

Re: What defines a "visual novel" apart from other games?
Sure, "Choices" will always come up, but that's just a bonus feature. Either they're for flavor, or they're for unlocking different pieces of content. "If you choose X, Turn to Page 67" only changes the page order of how you read Goosebumps, but it doesn't change the fact that y...

Re: What defines a "visual novel" apart from other games?
I don't understand. Isn't the whole point of this thread to set a difference between Visual Novels and Games? I tried to lay it as flatly and as simple as possible, but there seems to be an insistence to complicate it by piling on exceptions done by Game X or Game Y. That's because it IS complicate...

Re: What defines a "visual novel" apart from other games?
Let me illustrate my point. Illustrated or not, I have the same problem with this proposal. What if I desire a particular one of those "Point Bs" in the first drawing? Now the choice is a "roadblock", because I can't just choose, I have to choose right to get what I want. My des...

I don't know if you wanted feedback/suggestions, but here are my thoughts: Is it fair to call GIF Lossless? Unless they've made some major changes I wasn't aware of, GIF can only handle up to 256 colours, so it is certainly NOT going to save the sort of art we see in most modern VNs without destroyi...

Re: What defines a "visual novel" apart from other games?
Danganronpa is a Stat-raising/Adventure game. Ace Attorney is a Mystery/Puzzle game. The Walking Dead is a Pure Adventure Game. Blazblue is a 2D Fighter Game. Persona is an RPG. Etc. Etc. Everyone can probably name games with stories that really connected to them and narrative so good it gets you h...

Has anyone here opened their heart to Linux? (ducks and covers) Actually, I have Linux Mint as a dual boot on mine (Ubuntu didn't like my hardware, but Mint was okay after a bit of driver editing). I use it mostly for programming classes, and I find it very satisfying! I was considering switching o...

Re: Art Learning Resources
Probably a good idea to add Inkscape to the list of vector programs. It's more or less to Illustrator as GIMP is to Photoshop - which is to say it's free, open source, very functional, looked upon dubiously by professionals, and technically cut-down (but I've never found it lacking in any specific w...

Re: What defines a "visual novel" apart from other games?
I'm not too concerned about trying to nut out exactly what is or isn't a VN. All game genres are imprecise, and they're pretty much based on arbitrary qualities - some are about game mechanics, some are about art style or origin, some are about visual perspective/angle, some are about mood... some g...
