Re: Data structures for plot-related variables

Based on the information you provided, I believe a dictionary is more than sufficient. This is especially true if you intend to keep adding such variables (booleans) at a later point in time, because a dictionary is a flexible way of keeping your information together. You can also easily search for ...

Visual novel content (ESRB standards)

I'm writing a visual novel and I wish to target a 17+ rating, but I am not entirely sure it will work. Could someone help explain ESRB's ratings to me, perhaps with an example of a game with that rating and why for reference? In particular, what exactly is appropriate under a 17+ category? The reaso...

Re: Favourite Final Fantasy?

My favorite Final Fantasy game is Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube. Adventuring with a group of 3 was fun. There was always so much to do and I love collaborative games where everyone has an important role in the team. I enjoyed collecting gil when we went dungeon crawling, so I was the resident a...

Re: Do you play as same or opposite gender?

I agree with Amberbaum on this one. That is an interesting angle that I've not encountered often. In any case, my choice usually depends on who is available. A lot of games have only male protagonists, so I wind up playing as men fairly often by default. If there is an option, then I usually opt to ...

Re: Ex Astris 04 [GxB][Kinetic][Light Sci-fi][FREE]

I just wanted to take a moment to tell you how much I enjoyed your game(s). This is hands down one of the best episodic visual novels that I have ever read, and I do wish you luck on your future progress...if you're still working on this, of course.

Re: Begin a VN project, challenges, etc

I just want to know your experience about starting a project and the challenges that you have faced. I'm relatively new to the VN creation scene, but I feel I can share my experience thus far. :) A few challenges that I have seen or faced are underlined below. You should find a topic that you are p...

Re: CG in visual novels - Too many or too few?

@Parataxis Thank you so much for the explanation and break-down. Planning CG ahead is going to be of benefit to me, especially now that I've realized my initial outline is not entirely what I wanted after all. Ah, I've never been good at creative writing anyhow. At least I didn't go ahead and draw ...

Re: Symbolism

Recently, I've been having powerful ideas for certain elements that are symbolic to the stories i am writing. ... Naturally the general mentality is that "Why use symbolism when more than 90% of casual readers won't pick it up?". I have been battling with this notion. You may be thinking ...

Re: Why are you making your current visual novel?

It's good to see so many people who are passionate about their projects! To everyone who has already released a VN, congrats on your achievement. And those who are still working, keep at it, because I'm certain that we would all love to see what you make. I've had a little more time to think about m...

Re: Worst anime you have ever watched?

I watched the first season of SAO, liked it, then watched the first episode of season 2...and did not watch the series any more after that. The reason being, I cannot understand why almost every time a writer gets pushed into a corner about the next arc in a shounen battle anime, he usually chooses ...

Why are you making your current visual novel?

I was just thinking about something early this morning. It was 3AM and I skipped sleeping again. So I decided to work on my visual novel. I realized that my own purpose is a little vague, so I want to ask. What are your reasons for making your most recent visual novel? Share your inspiration with us...

Re: CG in visual novels - Too many or too few?

I am a very visual person, so I tend to have what I would consider "a lot" of CGs. There's really no price limit since I am the artist, and I try to be practical where possible, but I can definitely tell I am a bit excessive. My first short project Scribbles was about 10 minutes of play o...

Re: music and visual media

I personally don't pay attention to the visuals of a soundtrack unless I find it offensive (in which case, I will not go on to listen). When I listen to an album, mix, or demo, I'm usually doing other things rather than looking at the artwork anyway. Followed the link in your signature. Are those th...

Re: What is importan in a character?

About names: Coming from a background in programming, I can't say I wholly recommend using single letter names for most things in code, especially if others are going to be working on it with you. (Is that a Ren'Py convention?) Maybe it's just me though...I am fairly new to Ren'Py, so can disregard....
