Re: Kohaku's art thread critique/help welcome

I think you're focusing too much on textures, instead of shapes. It's ok with the fruits, but it's easier to notice with the scenery. That exagerated detail on textures breaks the shape, and there are a lot of irregular parts. It's easier to see with the rocks, specially in the gates's painting, wh...

Re: Which tablet pick?

I use an extremely cheap tablet (XP-PEN, it's a Chinese brand)--cheap by which I mean $50 or thereabouts, and it works fine with me. I was wary of buying the Wacom Bamboo because I'd heard that it was extremely easy to break, something like that. Not that I'm careless, I'd just really like my stuff...

Re: Paradise Plus(GXG) Indiegogo (Demo inside)

To be honest the pacing in the demo felt all over the place. Some scenes go by way too fast and others tend to go for a little too long. It might be good to have characters appear with a dissolve or slide in from the side instead of just appearing. Not every action has to have a transition, but it ...

Re: Help choosing routes

Chie sounds like she should be an automatic 'have a route with this person' based on the fact that she seems so important to the story. I also think it would be good to have a route with Ada to explore the opinions of the opposing side and either Ritz or Adrian since they've known Lee from the start...

Re: I need some help here please!

You could draw them and scan them in yourself, or you could find freeware sprites or buy some sprite packs that people have made. There are some free ones on the OELVN community wiki , and you can buy sprites on DSLite. If you want to draw them yourself you should get an art program like Photoshop o...

Re: Hand-drawn Sketches Vs. Sketching Straight into the Comp

Yeah it's not impossible, but you have to approach it differently than most other art programs. And it's really hard to do anything other than cell shaded work. You couldn't PAY me to use the gradient mesh tool for a project. :P There's also the Live Trace tool if you want to vectorize your sketch o...

Re: Hand-drawn Sketches Vs. Sketching Straight into the Comp

do you mean like using illustrator to draw your pictures? Illustrator isn't a 'drawing' program like photoshop is so it'd be pretty unintuitive to use. I know at least one person out there who uses it for inking their comics but even then they have to do it in a roundabout way. If I were you I'd jus...

Re: What makes a successful IndieGoGo?

if you include yourself in the video PLEASE use a decent camera and microphone. Cutting to a video of yourself that's blurry and muffled is off putting. Or better yet don't include it at all and just put a picture of yourself at the bottom.

Re: Tips on eyes?

it might be good if you could show us a drawing of the eyes on a face instead of just floating there. It'll be easier to answer your questions. You've done a good job on the eyes symmetry wise to be honest! I think they look fine. No one is going to yell at you for having not having perfectly symmet...

Re: Hand-drawn Sketches Vs. Sketching Straight into the Comp

So what sort of environment do you prefer when illustrating? Well, it’s almost totally digitised now. About all I do which is analogue is sign things for people. Even then I wish there was an undo function… This! I'm glad someone else have same thought as me. So Comic Studio is good for lineart? An...

I'm glad you're having fun! I like that you're using animations for the 'angry vein' and other types of anime shorthands. It's a lot nicer than just having it be a static image.

I think you should experiment with different kinds of color choices in your work. Shiny's not bad, but there are so many different options out there that it would be a shame to just stick with what you know forever. You might find a new way of coloring that you like even better.

You could have the choices be represented with images if you used image maps instead of the choice code.
