Re: Visual Novel writing style
I prefer the second one because the descriptions is more fleshed out, but as Mad Harlequin says the past tense style does put a distance to the action which you may not want in a vn.

Re: Should I make the romance and friendship routes obvious?
Pure text can be ambigous too, though. Both da:o and some old text games have tripped me up when it came to the tone of a dialog. Espically because the NPC's usually react to it in a way that makes it clear that it was said in a specific tone. I agree, though, that player-intent, npc reaction shoul...

Re: Making a Good Game: Clearly Designate Paths
I am actually in a bit of a struggle between making the game structure clear for the players and making the game I want. Now I have two serious games I work on right now. One is a stat-based game and I want to build up my skill at ren'py and the world more before it gets started. (I favour fantasy)....

Re: Making a Good Game: Clearly Designate Paths
That was interesting Trooper6, I have always thought of myself as a narrativist at heart, but now I think that I am actually closer to a simulationist, but because most simultation don't have stats for the personalities of the PC, I cannot form part of the character which is most important for me (i...

Re: Should I make the romance and friendship routes obvious?
I think it is important that you realize why bioware has the obvious flirt (Heart). The obvious one is to make the romance obvious of course, but that there is underlying reasons as well. One is that romance in Dragon Age is side content, with focus on side, and some people really don't like it and ...

Re: Set story pathing discussion
I don't usally like being locked out of routes, unless there is a really, really good reason for it. ... This is true and a very genuine concern for me. I'm not at a stage in the project where I'd be comfortable discussing what it's about. However, on the topic of being locked out of routes for cer...

Re: Set story pathing discussion
I don't usally like being locked out of routes, unless there is a really, really good reason for it. (For example in Virtue's last reward, I consider the game one long route because route jumping ends up being so significant to the story.) Also you run another risk since it is character centered. To...

Re: Romance VNs/Dating Sims are dubious manipulation games?
The LI's in a romance game are not on our level of awareness and they cannot be manipulated by that reason alone. In most game they have built in likes and dislikes and they only like the MC if s/he conform to their like and dislikeas presented in the form of getting/taken lovepoints (in most games)...

You can add me to the list of people who identifies as bi, but is not part of the community and thus would never be able to describe it. Though in my case it is a mix of being introvert and have being warned by a friend who does goes there that the cumonuity in my city is outright bi-phobic. Add to ...

Re: How can I stop making sexist games?
There might themes that, on the avarage, more women than men prefers, as well as there are traits that more women than men possess, but there will always be women who wants something different as well as women who have 'masculine' traits. I like fantasy with lots of magic, so I want more women that ...

Re: How can I stop making sexist games?
I still think divirsity in the female characters is the best approach. Also amongst the minor characters. Just make sure they don't default to male. For example there is no reason why a minor burecrat who obstructs our gang of heroes couldn't be female, or the woman working for the insurance office-...

 guess I need to step back and redeem myself. people see me as a hardcore sexist now. all I meant is: Taleweaver. you don't have to change the way you make your games. they spouse to come out of your brain the way you thinks. there is no reason to change the way you tell your sto...

Re: Which country do you prefer otome games to take place in
Yes you should place it in Denmark.
At least if you don't want to do a lot of research on amercian/japanese/another countries school system.
By placing it in a system you know, you can focus on the characters, and the story.
