Re: Turning a dervitive work into an original one

One thing that fanfic writers rarely recognise is that they don't sound like the original writer. In the way that they write, the mannerisms of their characters, the scene flow, the gimmicks, the very tone of their work. You may write a fanfic of a story that you really like, but you don't actually ...

Re: Voice Actor Recruitment Question

Wait, is this a fear specifically aimed at the casting call? Or have you not yet released those images at all and did little to advertise your project? If it's the latter, then that's just the old problem of having to take that miniscule risk of someone trying to steal your stuff when you talk about...

Re: Proper use of the {w} tag in visual novels.

I think I read the same VN as Papillon and this VN was also the first thing that came to mind when I opened this topic, it is indeed the worst way that you could use the {w}. Incredibly annoying when that feature is overused, just like how any breaking the reader's control of rapidly reading the sto...

Re: !Opinions Needed!- would you play a game with this type of art?

It can work, though I would recommend for his left eye (from our viewpoint) to have the iris more in the centre and for the right eye to not perfectly line up its corners with the hairline. Putting extra attention in making sure the eyes are perfect is worth it, those are one of the biggest factors ...

Re: Sprite Sizing for First Project

With the sprites you don't have to worry too much about it, you won't have the issue of coming short. Just focus on them looking well. Adviced is to make them bigger than the size you'll eventually use and downsize them. I usually go for 2000-3000 pixels high and whatever the appropriate width for t...

Re: Historical VNS and disclaimers?

A historical event doesn't have to be a minefield with disclaimers to cover yourself from anyone's critism, especially considering it's probably not an event that still has a lot of tension around it. Granted, people who experienced the revolution are alive today, but as far as I know it's not somet...

Re: How do you write the manuscript of a visual novel?

Make an outline first, writing a summary of the story in chronological order to determine if your story doesn't have large gaps or won't work otherwise. For the routes, you could use some programs that are often recommended here for route-planning like twine or trello, but I usually just write the o...

Re: The Thorn Prince[regency][BxG]

I am not so much into romance focused novels, but I really like the idea of this one, because of the link with far reaching consequences for the world depending on which princess is chosen and their very distinct personalities. Thanks, I hope that my way of introducing those elements to the story w...

Oh my, I haven't updated this in a while and the images have been hit with no longer existing. Reuploaded everything and have quite a few things to show. Laziness for the win, a total of 6 CGs for 5-15 scenes to minimise work! https://s5.postimg.cc/jn6bxz1hz/child_dreams.jpg Say hello to the family,...

Re: Starting with the pinnacle, then gluing highlights

I either read something and get a fanfic own character I develop while the story progresses or an entire story. Then I start working out that story, mix it with some other ones that I have, and eventually I get ideas for stories based upon those stories. And every one in ten or so is actually a dece...

Jup, see above. Selling instead of a free project makes it marginally more risky, but not exactly getting to that 1% risk rating.

Re: Adaption of a public domain story?

What not to do: -Use anything explicitly Disney like their images, music, etc. -Use any additions that Disney added to the original story, f.e. I don't know if Gaston is originally in there. -Worry too much, unless your story becomes an unexpected success (and don't assume it will be) Disney won't b...

Re: How to make a socially awkward character...interesting??

The above posts already cover it really well, but an introvert will still be hard to write. However, it's always the question of what kind of introvert they might be. I personally in real life can hold up a conversation with ease but am a massive introvert because that conversation has to be started...

Re: Expectations of convention vs. narrative

If it's crucial and fitting to the story and the very relationship, then keep in the everyone but those two dies ending. When they get to live, that's probably still enough. In fact, if it's really crucial yet the story chickens out with an ending where everyone lives happily ever after, then the re...
