Expressions are your least favorite? Interesting! I hate new poses but I could do expressions all day.
I'm always interested in character generators! Especially when the art is so nice. I really just like playing with them though.

Re: Should the adverb rule apply to dialogues too?
I've heard of that "rule" before but I've never heard of anyone who advocates it as an absolute thing in any case. It's just that writers who are still in the early stages of learning have a tendency to lean too heavily on adverbs to the detriment of their craft. It's not the adverbs that ...

Re: Naming a project?
It's a bit like poetry, I fiddle around with the words until I have something that fits on multiple levels. Or sometimes it just comes to me as I think about the best way to sum up what the game is in as simple terms as possible. If neither of those work it usually just means I need to leave it alon...

Re: What is your ideal otome game?
Age: 35 Gender (if any): Female Games for Android/iOS or Computer? Computer. All that pretty art is wasted on a tiny screen, and I don't use my phone for any gaming except puzzles. Anything else drains the battery life more than I like. Being able to buy individual routes or pay a fixed price for s...

Re: Furniture with sprites?
Sure, why not? Sprites can be whatever you need them to be, you don't even have to have them be people at all. Do whatever works for your game. You'd have to be careful with the character's placement, so that they're high enough that it doesn't feel oddly placed on the screen but low enough that the...

My apologies, I misread it. Man, that's not part of CC BY-SA? It should be. I wouldn't want my creative commons stuff sold like that either.

Re: Monsters, er.. Enemies & Backgrounds (Pipoya) [CC BY-SA
Sounds to me like the artist had no idea that putting a CC license on it meant that. I'd treat it like a NC license just because it's clearly the artists intent, even if it's not legally binding. BTW, my understanding of copyright law is that the court would be held in the artist's country, not the ...

Sadly yes. This has happened to me before.Taleweaver wrote:Um, backlash for declining to give someone free services? Has the world really come to this?

Re: Need tips for finding artists
Most artists I've asked to work with me freely have either agreed or, politely, declined. I don't know how it is with other artists, but I actually find the private requests for free work very stressful. There's a feeling of obligation that comes with someone soliciting me specifically and I'm afra...

Re: CGs vs "cartoonized" or filtered photos
In general I'd say filtered photos look cheap and shoddy and shouldn't be used for any commercial endeavor. This goes out the window totally if you can make your filtered stuff look as awesome as Ookami Kasumi's but the key to this way of doing it is artistry, using tools like color theory and compo...

I liked Mist for the same reasons you do Gear. That's why I'm so addicted to the Escape the Room subgenre of adventure games. You should check out the Submachine series, you'll love them.

Ulfus said he commissioned them, he never said who the artist was. Saying that they were made by him isn't actually true.

If you want a pen tool I like Inkscape. It works a lot like Illustrator and it's free.

Re: New Term for Visual Novels? [split]
I'm on the side of getting a new term if we can get enough people to agree to give it some traction. There's nothing about the name Visual Novel that says "this is something that you play on a computer and has interactivity". What it really sounds like is someone trying to reinvent a term ...

Ah, thanks Trick. Yeah, I'm not surprised that you're busy. Still looking forward to your awesome VN. :) @chocoberrie: I can do a tutorial for some of those things that you can't but there's a few on that list that I don't know how to do either. We should certainly add music and sound, I can't belie...
