Re: Game Direction
I think it could definitely work depending on how well you pace it. There are plenty of visual novels where you need to play one route first to unlock the others, and some that do similar things with changing perspective on the story as well, so it's not an unheard of concept. One kind of similar ex...

Re: [Nonlogical Coder][In-Progress] Messenger - Version 1.0.0
Thanks for sharing your code! I'd like to get this file from your itch.io page and see whatever other information you might have there, since I'm always interested in checking out different ways of simulating instant messaging in RenPy. But when I clicked on your link to nonlogicalcoder.itch.io/mess...

Re: Is there a "Creators Checklist"?
I was [naively?] hoping there was a way to just produce something and place it somewhere. But that's not how the internet works, I know. That is actually pretty how much itch.io works! It's very friendly to developers and easy to use. If you decide you want to release a demo soon, I bet it would ta...

Re: Are there any creator that manages to live off of their Visual Novels output? If yes, who?
While I'm not sure about the specifics of these people or groups offhand, a few prolific and successful English-speaking visual novel developers that come to mind are Hanako Games, Winter Wolves, Christine Love, and ebi-hime. I'm not sure if any of them have posted much publicly about their finances...

Re: Is there a "Creators Checklist"?
You're asking such a long list of broad questions that I think it will be really difficult for anyone to give you helpful answers. A whole lot of this will vary wildly depending on the particulars of the project. For instance, in your first list you have the programming as pretty much the last step ...

Re: Ren'Py Steam Achievement Guide
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I was really confused about how to add steam achievements before, but following these instructions worked perfectly.

Error message when trying to add steam achievements
I'm trying to figure out how to add steam achievements to my game. The issue I'm having is in RenPy 6.99.14.3.3347. I found this code when I searched google for information about adding steam achievements to RenPy, and I added it to my game and followed all its instructions. I'd like to export a bui...

Take A Hike! [GxG][Slice of Life][Camping][Commercial]
itch banner.png Available now on itch.io ! Cheerful slacker Olive thought that taking an outdoor ed. class during her final year of high school would be an easy credit, but the year-end camping trip turns out to be a lot more than she bargained for. When an argument with another classmate spurs the...

This looks really fun! I love the aesthetics of the costumes. I'd definitely like to learn more about Madame Scorpion!

What happened to rengoku-teien.com?
Rengoku Teien used to have a ton of great free-to-use music - I think I found it through Alte's Japanese Music Compendium thread, and I've used several tracks from there in my projects. But it seems like the site has been down for quite a while. Going to rengoku-teien.com just shows this now: screen...

Re: Should you cite your sources when putting factual info in your VN?
I think just listing it in the credits of the game would be fine, or maybe putting something on your game's page that says "All animal facts in the game come from this website." I like to credit anything that helps me at all too, so when I used some details about how to play a specific boa...

Update: The Light at the End of the Ocean is now also available on steam as well as itch.io, so I've updated the main post to include the steam link as well. It has a 10% release discount on there right now if you want to check it out!

Re: How to not self-insert
I don't think it's necessarily wrong to write characters and stories with similarities to yourself and your own life. If you're writing about things you're already really familiar with, you can probably do an especially good job of making them realistic and relatable to people who've been in similar...

Re: My Eyes Life [LGBT][BxB][Supernatural][Creepypasta Inspired]
What a funny concept! I love "lame creepypasta," so I'm looking forward to reading it. I don't know if it really has a good monster that could make a cameo, but one of my favourites is the Russian Sleep Experiment. Maybe you could fit in a reference to that somehow with how Ethan is suppos...
