I think one way of incorporating multiple paths that players will more likely play is by making paths branch near the end of the game. Growlanser 2 does this very well, for example. With about an hour left in the game, you can go down several paths, so when you're done you can go back and see what ...

Don't we all around here? We're revolutionaries, we argue to ourselves to continue.

How about the feature that by finishing a path you unlock game features (such as CG mode, music etc.), like most other Japanese VNs?

I'll translate: ゲーム内のCGにつきましては、 Regarding CGs in the game, 加工の有無に拘らず、 Unregarding to additional processing, お客様のWEBページでの使用を一切禁止しております。 It is PROHIBITED to use on the web page. (Did you take this on regards to web pages? I think you did) これらの素材そのものと、素材を使用したCG作品・ツール・Skin・壁紙・動画・携帯電話の待受画面等を、 These raw a...

Your use of colour is too dark, a common trait I find in many Euro-American amateur CGers. Your lines need to be processed - airbrushed, blurred, straightened, and/or thinned - they just seem too raggedly outstanding. Make it feel more natural. You don't see borders of things in real life! The face ...

If you have an old computer (pref. a 80486 on windows 95 and no internet and if necessary no music), move it to the most bland room in your house, then work on it there!

No more distractions. For me, I'm using my palmtop to write and translate my story...works well for say...school and coffee shops.

There is a reason why Japanese engines don't provide much help on S/L. Some games don't allow it, but others provide you the save/load button on the choicebox. That's as far as it goes. If your game is anywhere beyond 30 minutes a route (provided from beginning to end innocently), and there are more...

2 millions words? Nah. I'm targeting half a million at most. The storyline is heavily intertwined - how would the stories be powerful without a deep common ground as root? Total finishable characters spanning the 3 volumes: 7 (2 finishable in V1, 3 new finishable in V2 but depending on storyline, an...

Since I had a part in designing (concepts) the Paths system, allow me explain a little. Paths was designed straight-out from the Japanese industry standard - a GUI interface that can be fully operated on both keyboard and mouse, and simple to use. Mouse keys are defined as left, right, upwheel, down...

Keep in mind that since the May demo from last year, PJ had to restart itself to restructure a few things. Literally. The old design was good, but still had a few inefficient patterns. There are still a few organizational bugs today, but at least we have a decent BG artist. Currently, I have about 1...

Raw art for the tachi-e (stand-up drawings) are full body, but in-game use are anywhere from waist to ankles up, depending on the person's height. The game will be representing them in height-relation. And yes, I'll make Arthur colour these in...I've been talking with him about this several times al...

...we digress. Allow me to extend a little bit again character and plot development. From what I've seen so far, it lacks detailed descriptions of everyday life (outside from the time interacting with the girl, per se). With the exception of few (e.g. Black pencil), it also lacks the element of a su...

Re: Some pointers.. From a players point of view.

I don't think it's fair to compare English industry standards with Japanese ones in the VN area... There is no English VN industry to speak of (I don't think translations should count), and there probably won't be until Summer Schoolgirls comes out. Ahh...but there is...sort of. I'd like to include...

Regarding event CGs and stuff like stage layout... This is where the storyguy (officially called SCENARIO DIRECTOR) does his/her work. They sketch and describe out EVERYTHING that's supposed to be in there in the story and sidenotes. Then, he or she orders the artists to draw that to specs. It's tyr...
