Oh, I like that idea!

I was thinking of using it as something like, you know, the game company logo that pops up before the game intro starts, along with one for Ren'Py and our Team. Just for that 'professional' feel.

Orson Scott Card, "How to Write Science Fiction & Fantasy" I agree, definitely a good resource. If you're looking for absolutely basic, the best option is to, as Jake said above, read intensively. Read some of the masters of your genre, whatever it is. Do some research on the really b...

I stayed up until seven am this morning working on a non-NaNo plot bunny that bit me yesterday afternoon. Now I'm shaking my brain out, getting those creative juices flowing for the day after tomorrow. (And desperately wanting a nap.) Can I use that NaNo logo as part of my game? Probably somewhere i...

I'd lean more towards "Character's Mom" and "Character's Dad". Thinking about it, I can't say I know the first names of a single one of my friends' parents -- in my circle that's how we refer to our folks, as "my mom" or "so and so's dad". So it just seems mor...

These sites are annoying to the point of being dead to me. Yar, I agree. And what Misu said. My favorite is the queue system, where the site flashes insane blinky ads at me and a countdown timer next to a banner claiming that if I gave them money I'd be downloading already. My first modem topped ou...

Now, if you really want rules from above, I would say that non-game-specific code is okay. If you can see other games using it, than it should be allowed. If it's something that only one game would make use of, it's less kosher. If we really wanted to be hard-bottoms about it, then we could take a ...

Cool workaround! I'm using spirits and auras, myself, to achieve a similar effect -- the charas will be blurry except for their eyes, so it'll be really easy to draw. I hope. And I think the effect will really contribute to the story. Believe it or not, I actually have half a game written with a bli...

Take a look at the IFComp. There's a big plate of games and a bunch of voters and special prizes for things like the most controversial game (so if people either LOVE you or HATE you, you may not win, but you will be recognised). I'd far prefer the idea of a yearly IFComp-style competition over mon...

Come to think of it, there has been no discussion of any NaNoRenO synopsis or idea...are people planning to work on their projects in secret? :D Are they keeping it under wraps then may or may not announce the title when March 1 comes? It doesn't go against the rules to plan things out so that all ...

Too bad I didn't think to do something Victorian for NaNo!

I make that mistake -- leaving off the colons -- *all* the time. I don't know why; it just feels weird to use colons on two lines in a row? But then, it took me ages to get used to colons at all instead of semi-colons. Oh, and I think you can get away without naming your menus as long as you aren't ...

Wait, I thought that was what we wanted to do! Heh, am I confused again? :) (I should add, I don't see right off how kana mode could work with nvl mode -- I had actually written my own 'novel mode' using window styles when I tried this last. But I bet there's a way... or maybe I'm the only one who f...

This is probably too kludgy (I tend to make things overly complex), but I did find a workaround that gives the right effect when I was first experimenting with something similar to nvl mode a while ago. I just defined two character objects for the narrator, one with the standard flashing arrow, the ...

Wow, I hadn't seen that cookbook recipe before. It's impressive, but I'm not embarrassed (much) to say that all those options makes my brain hurt. Why not try something simpler if you just need two stats? This thread: http://lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1618 ...has some pointers that mi...

Although I do beg your forgiveness in advance if I end up doing a half-baked job in a month - being an absolute newbie, I might be overestimating myself a little...maybe even more than a little... You'll do fine! Worst to worst, you'll have a huge chunk of a project completed to finish in April. :)...
