Re: Need Suggestions: Love games aimed for boys

Old classics Season of the Sakura or Three Sisters' Story.
The one famed for making lots of hentai fanboys suddenly find themselves uncontrollably weeping: Kana ~Little Sister~.
If he likes RPG-style gameplay with ren'ai game elements, then Brave Soul is excellent.

Re: Fading in text in the message box

Once again, I agree with Jake here. If the player wants to read and you're not letting them read as fast as they can, you're making them stare at your visual effect for every single box of text. That's a lot of accumulated irritation over the course of a VN. pinkmouse makes a thought-provoking point...

Re: Elven Relations 2: Mermaid Liaisons

A little update, as posted today at http://alextfish.livejournal.com/tag/mermaid%20liaisons. I'm generally making postings there, but this one was significant enough that I thought I'd copy it here: I finished one route through Chapter 5 by the end of February! Current status of the six chapters: Ch...

Re: Where do you begin writing?

Figure out the main part of the story you want to show. It's perhaps a plot - a sequence of plot events - or it might be a character interaction or something. Then decide what the necessary setup to that is. Where do you want to start your characters off? What's the Inciting Event that kicks off the...

Re: [WIP] Errant Heart - Now with demo! For a limited time!

Honestly, I've never given text speed much thought. Heh. I bet you will after this incident :P Typically, no matter the speed, I default to hitting the enter key to reveal the whole block of text and then read on from there. But obviously the menu issue has to be resolved for other reasons as well....

Re: Elven Relations 2: Mermaid Liaisons

Is this going to be the first Ren'Py game that takes advantage of the sequel feature (persitant data from one game to another?) Hmm. It may be. I'm not aware of any others. There haven't been many sequels to Ren'Py games released at all, as far as I know. There was the Wandering Child trilogy a few...

Or if you don't want to hide all your other images, you can use "behind":

Code: Select all

Re: How to prevent rollback?

If you just want to completely disable rollback throughout your entire game, then that's quite easy to do, as described in the FAQ: http://www.renpy.org/wiki/renpy/FAQ#How_do_I_disable_the_rollback_feature.3F This might make sense to do for certain games that aren't primarily about the VN text (but ...

Re: Complaint about pauses

Hehehe... you're getting on to the discussion about rollback vs readback there. Search the forum for "readback" to see some of the controversy it's generated in the past. There are a couple of subtle ways that Ren'Py does support rollback being treated differently to first-time viewing of ...

Re: Pause issues

Parameterized Text is working best for me unfortunately now I'm having trouble getting values to show up in a text string show text08 "First score: %(playerscore)d" This isn't displaying the value correctly instead i see the code when I run it. This is technically a show statement isn't i...

Re: Complaint about pauses

I agree this is frustrating. This kind of thing gets me worked up no end. I also play with text speed at the maximum. If the text speed is at the maximum, all pauses should either be skipped entirely or require a keystroke/mouseclick before advancing. Preferably the former, but I can live with the l...

Re: Question for people with completed games

I once had a complaint about When I Rule The World being too high-res at 1024x768, by a friend who wanted to play it on his 800x600 machine. (This was five years ago.) That's the only such complaint I've had.

Re: Obtaining one's artistic talent

For what it's worth, I agree with Jake here. If people have such different views of what a project should be, and such tangled responsibilities, that they need to resort to bartering away the parts that are less important just to be able to keep working together, then... well, it certainly doesn't s...

Re: Most Surprising Plot Twists in a VN

The title is generally translated "A Drug that Makes You Dream", yes. However, I played through one scenario of it and it wasn't about drugs at all, but rather bullying and some pretty screwed-up characters. I didn't particularly want to play either of the other two scenarios, but I unders...
