Re: Phoenix Wright
What I loved about the success of Phoenix Wright is that it proves that there is a market for visual novels and story-oriented adventure games in the US. God bless the Nintendo DS.

Re: Invasion of the Panty Snatchers
Quick note: depending on how you want the battle paced (fast or slow) it might do with a little more driving percussion and maybe a nice bass line. This brings to me the image of sneaking about the eerily darkened room hunting down hiding aliens and pounding them with tennis balls than doing a run-a...

Re: Money??? please give advice
That's actually really great. I'm planning on using a temporary script like this as a debug tool for keeping track of the major emotional variables: I know there's probably some developer tool that lets us do that, but this feels more elegant. Why make it "temporary"? That could be the de...

Re: Ideas Dump
This thread makes my heart aaaaache... So many fun ideas but with an almost immediate "oh by the way, never gonna happen" stamp on them ^^;... Oh and... turn-based strategy. Easier ^^ (Supaaa rooboo~... ahem *cough*) Well, the point of Tactica Break isn't to match the girl to her guy coun...

Re: Ideas Dump
Fresh Idea ********** TACTICAL BREAK CONCEPT: The Player is the commanding officer of one of those mecha-squads piloted by mostly-female teenage pilots. Each mecha requires a three-man crew: Pilot, Engineer, and Gunner. Your unit consists of three vehicles, for a total of nine combat troops, plus yo...

Re: Ideas Dump
But that can still be simulated with a "jump start", a second playthrough of the main script. It isn't necessary to use persistent variables in that case. One of the only examples coming to mind to me at the moment where persistent would be necessary for story telling is if something chan...

Hmmmm. . . perhaps something like. . . ***** *Ring Ring* Now who could that be? *Open Door* Jenny "Ohayo!" Player "Ummmm. . . Columbus?" J "What?" P "Are we playing the states and capitals game? Columbus is the capital of Ohio, right?" J "No, silly, ohayo...

Re: Update Ren'Py Before Release
I'd have to say that the best way to do it is to say, "Caveat Emptor." List the version number next to the name. If the game developer does not bother to update to the newest version before releasing, thus losing an audience of people who use Vista, then it's their loss. I would also flag ...

Re: Ideas Dump
Then try this variation on for size: how about a game that plays more like Groundhog Day? It starts off at the beginning. It ends with disaster. . . then you wake up again in the beginning. Each time you play through, more options get opened up as you remember what came before. Essentially, instead ...

Re: Has Any Game Ever Made You Cry?
Narcissu ;_; Enuf said. I can't wait to play Da Capo in English, but honestly, I don't know if I can make it through Nemu's storyline without :( ing. The anime itself was bad enough, especially coming at the tail end of what has been up until then a fairly light-hearted harem anime. Non-Renai: Terra...

Re: Ideas Dump
In my experience, gamers hate it when behaviour like that is necessary to progress in the game, and it obviously makes no immediate sense from a story point of view. It would work, but I think it would alienate significant chunks of the audience unless the 'save and load' functionality was excused ...

Re: Ideas Dump
Hmmm. How about: The first time you play through, the game ending would state, "WAIT, this isn't the way it should end!" and, perhaps, restart at the very beginning immediately instead of kicking you back to the menu screen. Through this run-through you see the new situations. Perhaps ther...

Re: The Knight and The Alchemist
Something that is lacking around here is honest-to-goodness shoujo. Hee hee I noticed that. There were a lot of games where the guys chase after the girls so I was like...if I can't find the one that I wish for, why not make it? Well truth be told I thought your NT was shoujo even if it was an H ga...
