Re: Blooming Nightshade Demo [Yuri Game Jam 2017]
I really do think that royalty free background music would help it pop. (And I'm fairly sure there's enough around that you could find something you liked. :)) And yeah, I get the phone vs. computer thing. It really does seem incredibly difficult to optimize for all formats! (And would wait on other...

Re: Aeterna [Furry][18+][Gay/Bi/Straight][NSFW/SFW mode][Surreal]
Am slowly playing my way through. A few initial thoughts! 1. I really think the opening is adorable. I LOVE the segue from D&D to the penthouse apartment. 2. A few of the lines read faintly stilted to me. This is a hard format to critique in, but if you have a script (or raw Ren'Py code), I'd be...

Re: Blooming Nightshade Demo [Yuri Game Jam 2017]
A couple of thoughts! 1. I know you're working on character art! I think the game will be a LOT better with it! (Right now, the backgrounds are lovely, but definitely the lack of character art makes it less awesome than it could be!) 2. I think that any music and/or sound effects you could add would...

Re: Writing For A Mood
I try to read other stories with a mood similar to the one I want to create. Then I pay attention to what gives it the mood - the word choices, sentence length, etc.

Re: How to approach dev'ing VN with weird Story Mechanic
- Is this mechanic possible and how would you recommend this be set up? Yes. This is completely doable. Set up is probably along the lines of using a counter. (Where you set $ ending = 0 initially, but once it's reached, change it to 1. Add an if else statement to the beginning of your game where i...

Simple Combat Engine
Anyway, I recently created a basic combat engine that I could slot into Ren'Py games. (Mostly to play a bit more with the engine, since hey! Why not?) It's not super sophisticated, but lets you choose your weapons, do damage (using a random number generator), take hits (same), then display different...

Re: learning to program
I do the same thing. The colon is and always will be my nemesis. *sigh* (I just remind myself that the only bad thing that happens when I screw up is that I get an error message that usually even tells me where my error is. Oh, that and that I need to write little chunks, not big one, little, not bi...

Re: learning to program
Hah, for that I don't think you need a formal class. (Although classes do give discipline! But really, it's mostly the higher level stuff that seems to really require a bunch of formal training, which most game design really isn't! Of course, I say this as I bork out while trying to program a while ...

Re: Transitioning from novel writing to vn writing?
One thing I'd recommend as far as learning to write for VNs go is to program a bit. Not necessarily a lot but...even a little will give you a great idea as to what you can do in a visual novel that you *can't* even in a choose your own adventure novel. (One example that comes to mind is a counter. F...

Re: learning to program
I definitely think it's possible to program without learning it in college. I mean, clearly you program and there are a lot of people earning good livings (who I know) who are self taught! What I will say (from having attended an engineering program) is that school gives structure. It's really, real...

Writer/Programmer Looking for Artist and/or Musician for Chinese Historical Visual Novel
So...I've been writing for a while and have a few credits under my belt (Daily Science Fiction, Every Day Fiction, Penumbra, etc.). I've also been working on Python and started playing around with Ren'Py as a fun way to learn more about how to use the language and have created a couple of (very basi...
