Re: Voiceacting in Commercial VNs-- do you?

Unless you are willing to invest a lot of time and money into doing the voice acting right, don't do it. I know that you want to put as much polish into your project as possible, and that's great. But this is one of those areas you can't easily skip on, and getting people to work for nothing is like...

Re: Help with Pricing?

Here's the real question, I think: What is your time worth to you? Five dollars for an image is extremely cheap . However, if it only takes you twenty minutes? That means you can make three images, and that becomes fifteen dollars an hour. This is a respectable sum. Since these are full-color images...

Re: Dating Sim Engine (DSE) 3.1! Day Planner and Event Manag

Thanks for your help... I think I'll go with the second one. where do i declare the weekend variable and when would it change from 0 to 1? And sorry to bother you, but could you help me with adding a calendar to it? No problem, always happy to help out. :) You'll want to declare the weekend variabl...

Re: Dating Sim Engine (DSE) 3.1! Day Planner and Event Manag

I want to split the planner into weekdays and weekends, so the planner would show up every monday and saturday How do I do that? How do I determine when monday and saturday is? My problem is that the time period would be around 10 months and the storyline is not quite long, I originally want to mak...

Re: DSE Uncaught Exception on first-time game load

For anyone else who may be running into the same issue, I appear to have fixed the issue. Thanks to Gas who did point me in the right direction, and special thanks to Biomass in IRC for sitting down with me for a few hours to puzzle at just how weird the DSE framework can be sometimes. The solution ...

Re: DSE Uncaught Exception on first-time game load

I'm sorry, but an uncaught exception occurred. While running game code: File "game/main.rpy", line 215, in script call screen day_planner(["Morning", "Afternoon", "Evening", "Late Eve"]) File "renpy/common/000statements.rpy", line 457, in ...

Re: DSE Uncaught Exception on first-time game load

Forgive my ignorance here, but I'm struggling to understand how this fixes the issue I'm currently experiencing - which is that my game isn't loading data properly if the day planner script hasn't run at least once. For some reason, running it as part of the init Python requires me to define the Day...

DSE Uncaught Exception on first-time game load

Hey folks, I've been beating my head against the wall trying to figure this one out for a bit now, and at this point I need to ask for help. I know where the problem is, but just not how to solve it. So here's the problem: Using the DSE as a base, when I save a game on the day planner menu, and load...

Re: Share your Creative Hobbies/skills and Endeavors!

I've been playing video games since I was four years old. I remember the first time I played an NES... god those were magical times. I must've been six when I played the SNES the first time, and realized I was pretty darned good at games. To say I've played a lot of games is an understatement. I use...

Dear on-call technician: Perhaps if you had followed the DOCUMENTATION FOR MAINTENANCE which stipulates you are SUPPOSED TO CONTACT ME TO INFORM ME TO IGNORE CERTAIN ALARMS THAT WILL BE GOING OFF I wouldn't have needed to "make all of those alerts" for you. By which I mean to say, I only e...

Re: Help choosing a logo for my VN

Of your most recent batch of three, the first one is the best in my opinion. It's got a good amount of negative space that helps draw the user's eye in towards the title.

The other two reverse this - they tend to push the eye away from your title. So go with the first one.

Re: Quick question about children songs

I used to carol when I was younger. Yeah, I was one of those kids. XD That said, I wonder if it's a west coast thing? One would think it's a more New England thing (since Figgy Pudding sounds like a Ye Olde Englishe thing), but being a Mid-Easterner you'd think we might have gotten some of that via ...

Re: Quick question about children songs

There isn't one song specifically about baking/food, but there are some with random lines about roasted chestnuts/popcorn/Chinese food. The longest part of English Christmas song about food that I found is in "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" which has four lines about figgy pudding. It's w...

Re: Are you sceptical of games using pre-made assets?

It all depends on what you're hoping to 'get' out of the project. If you're just making a first-time game to make a game for the experience and demonstrate "this is what I can do?" That's fine. If you're making a first-time game with the intention of selling it? Well... then yes, it will b...

Re: Does Anyone Know a List of Indie Game Publishers?

Can you deduct business expenses in either case? You can (IIRC, in both cases) in the US. Yeah, that's part of why I say taxes are a hell of a thing (in the US!). Self-employed individuals are in a sort of weird place, but anything legitimately business-related can be deducted. If you use one room ...
